How long can you keep a hair product before it goes "bad'?

Is there a general rule about how long to keep hair care products? Do they lose their effectiveness after so long?

I have some conditioners that I've had for over a year...I'm not really concerned about them damaging my hair..but I wonder if they still work as effectively?

Do they go rancid and start to smell?

I have some Carol's Daughter HHB that I've had for well over a year. When I first used it I didn't like it. I found it under my sink-a few weeks ago- and now I love it.
It says for best results use within 6 months and refrigerate it. And I didn't do either...but it seems to be working...

TIA!

I have a stash of Lustrasilk HPC that was discontinued in early 90's and they still work fine. I usually toss a product when it changes colors, changes smells, starts to separate or just looks "weird".

also you never know how long those beauty supply stores hold on to those products..could be just as long as you had the CDproduct under your sink !?!?!!

I thought the CD HHB was supposed to be refrigerated

My jar of HHB says use within 6 months, but I have still been using it and it's been longer than that.

True. :yep: Nutrine Garlic Shampoo is supposed to be pink. I bought a bottle and when I went to use it, I noticed it was dark brown. :barf:
