How long do you keep braids in before you decide you've had enough?

I was trying to stretch and decided to get braids. I've had them for a week and a half and now I just want them gone. I miss my own hair. Everyone keeps saying they look good, but I just keep making excuses to take them out. I paid entirely to much for these cornrows to take them out, but at the same time they are just not working for me? How long do you normally last with braids before you miss your own hair?

Cornrows don't last too long before they start looking a bit bootleg, :imo:. I really miss my hair when I have it in individual braids (which I do right now) especially after about the one month mark I feel like I MUST take them out. Good thing I do my own hair, or I'd go broke!

I feel you. This is my second round of rope twist, I took the first set out after 2 months and redid it the next day, so now i'm going into my 4th month straight of twist, and I'm ready to take them out.....lol.....I only paid $90 for this set, (I paid $150 for the 1st), so I feel like I've got my money's worth.

LadyP I totally agree cornrows don't last long enough for me. Individuals I can co-wash every wk and get at least 3 wks before they get the fuzzies.

I have been doing the C&G method since Sept. I start missing my hair after the first month but after the first week of being out I want them back in. I am 7 mos post so the 2 textures are killing me.

With cornrows i normally do about 2-4 weeks depending on the style, with braids i wash every week or 2weeks and that can last for about 6-8weeks, i normally take out my edges though as soon as it starts to get too loose.

The most I can do with cornrows is 2 weeks. Single extensions...I know I've gone over a year. I'm not sure if I ever made it to two, but I would not be surprised.

Back in the day a month tops!!! Now that I can redo them every 2 weeks, i can keep them in for 2 months.

I think I was only to keep cornrows in my hair for two weeks. I couldn't moisturize my hair properly when I had them in.

With individuals, I can keep them in for 6-8 weeks before it gets out of control, especially in the back/nape.

Back in the day--3 Months for individuals
Now--3 weeks tops.

I'm not getting anymore braids anytime soon. My last one I only left in for 11 days and I paid $200 for them. Everybody was looking at me like i'm crazy.

Single braids I wear for around 8 - 10 weeks. But I'm natural w/maybe only 6 inches of hair. When I was relaxed, I wouldn't go past around 6-7 weeks orelse matte city! As far as when I start to get sick of my individual braids, that happens around 2-4wks.

That's me everytime! I get my hair braided and two weeks down the line, I miss playing with my hair and just want them gone.

I have kept my braids in (with redoing sections monthly) 3 months at a time. I use the C & G method and had no matting nor tons of shedding the last time I did it. I can't wait to put them back in! I want to wait until after Easter and a program my Alumni chapter is hosting in April to put them in. I like not having to worry about doing my hair for long stretches and I get fantastic growth. I need BSB/BSL this year!!
