I have been using henna regularly for at least 3 mos. I usually use it every 2-4 wks. So far there has not been any significant improvement in appearance of my hair. My hair is damaged but I was really hoping to see some change by now. How long did it take you to get positive results? (I also co wash 2-3 times weekly and d/c hair 1-2 times weekly.)

I would say I saw a BIG improvement in my hair after using henna for 6 weeks/3 treatments.

Questions:

What kind of henna are you using and where are you getting it from?
What do you mix it with?
How long do you leave it on?

I guess... it's also a possibility that some people's hair doesn't respond well to henna. Just like anything else, nothing works for everyone.

I saw an improvement in my hair on the first use. :ohwell: But my ends were severely damaged (over bleached and dyed to an inch of it's life) and I have very fine hair - so the 'coating' was an instant improvement.

I second Neith's questions, as well.

What kind of damage is your hair suffering from? What are you cowashing/dc'ing with?

Chiming in with the same questions.

I also saw improvement after my first application. I initially applied it once a week for about the first 2 months.

I use Jamila henna and indigo. Sometimes I add vatika oil to make it smoother. Usually I just add water and once or twice I added amla powder. I did it tonight and noticed the curl loosening that others mention.

I am texturized and can go 4-6 months easily. Last time I only left the texturizer on for 4 mins. I use the Phyto Index 1 and mix with olive oil.

I have damage from wearing extensions. I thinned my already thin hair to see through status when wet. That may be getting better. I also cut a portion of the front part of my hair removing extensions. Now I am wearing clip in extensions that I made. I am using Bee Mine. I use MT sometimes during the week. I will be discontinuing MT after this bottle and just use B'Mine as my growth aid.

It does not do anything bad to the hair and I like the darker color but I just haven't seen much bling or thickness yet.

Well... from what you describe, your hair is damaged. Sometimes when you have damaged hair, things aren't going to magically make it look or behave like healthy hair.

I think that with continued good hair care your hair will improve with or without henna :yep:

Henna isn't a cure all. In fact nothing is.

And 3 months is nothing in the way of treating severe damage. . . it took me almost a year to get my hair back into good shape after bleach damage. Try to be patient and treat your hair gently, your hair will recover with time.

I see all the threads about more immediate results and was just hopeful. I see some improvement. Not wearing the extensions seems to be helping the most. I may look a bit of a mess but for the time being I will not be wearing sew ins. Thanks for the input.

Over time you will see a difference with henna. I saw a difference the first time but I didn't have much damage to speak of. But trust me, with continued use, your hair with liven up. All you need to add now is the patience everyone speaks of.:yep:

ITA. I started my hair journey earlier this year with severely damaged hair. Since I opted to not BC, it's been very difficult. My hair is still not 100% yet but, it's much better than when I joined LHCF. Don't give up. Good luck and happy hair growing.

I henna'd last month and I noticed that my hair feels much stronger. I plan to try this again before the new year.

I think the "immediate results" are more along the lines on how the hairs feels and appears...When I Henna - I noticed the increased body/volume, the color and that my hair felt stronger. With continued use as well as a viable maintenance plan/schedule your hair should thrive.

Thanks for all the encouragement. When I used extensions, it seemed as if my products would last forever. I am running out of my Jamila stash and the last time I went to my "secret" Indian grocery, all the Jamila henna was gone. I would hate to order it online. Last night I used HennaSooq Indigo and I had better results. I had been using the rainbow indigo previously.

My weave damage occurred when I first moved to my current location. I went through so many terrible stylists. All of whom were "celebrity" stylists. I only met DSD in the last few months and by that time my hair was already a mess. She is very good and does not braid too tight. I am trying to save moneny. But I plan to go back and let her flat iron, trim and style my real hair when its a little healthier.

I have only done 3 treatements so far (1x a week)-I will decrease it next month. I saw a change in color on the 1st try. For the 2nd my hair got softer and shine was evident. This last one, I note the color change, softness and shine. I haven't done it that much but I am going to keep at it. I use henna from my local indian grocer-mix it with green tea and molasses.
