I gave it up, so "never." When I used to have my hair pressed, or flat ironed it myself (I've tried 4+ different flat irons in my natural hair lifetime, and all were the rave at the time)... I would get severe knots on the ends of my hair, and sometimes down my hairstrands. Although they were "taming" my naps, they were also damaging them by thining them out, thus making my hair hard to detangle on a regular basis. And then there's that thing called shedding.

In all fairness, I must also mention that oils, or products that contained oil, were used before using direct heat, which I have since learned is damaging to the hair. Also, my hair is fine and therefore not as resilient to heat as thicker stranded hair would be.

About three times a year. This year I'm gonna flatiron for Thanksgiving, Christmas and some other day when I feel like flaironing just because :yep:

Ugh...never because I've never been able to flat iron it and get it to look like something nice afterwards. I just don't think I've ever used the right technique or products :ohwell:. Also at this point I'm hiding under wigs pretty much until I get to a point where I can rock a bun...hair isn't even SL. I gave my HOT TOOLS ( yipe!) curling iron away. Lol - I never want that thing back burning off strands of my hair especially since I discovered my hair is fine...forgetaboutit :nono:. Maybe once my hair gets long enough to do some decent roller sets as I stretch I may iron out the roots but that's about it for me...so right now never :spinning:

I say once every two weeks. I currently have a sewn in and sometimes I need the top of my hair to match the weave, so I gotta set it and then blow it out. But I am trying to minimize that.

i voted "never". don't own a curling iron, and i haven't used my flat iron since august.

as far as direct heat goes, however, i'll be blow-drying tonight. but no heat styling appliances for me.

I flat iron my hair at the most - 2x a week & wash my hair 2x/week. I use sabino moisture block with it too and so far I haven't seen any split ends - my hair is really shiny, bouncy and healthy looking!

Im so in love with my hair!!

Never! (well, 1-2x/year) Only after I gave up regular usage of direct heat about a year ago did my growth retention really take off! See siggy :yep:

I notice that some say when they use heat they get dry hair. Could it be the techniques, tools, or product?

I ask because for me it is just the opposite. My hair is NEVER dry after I flatiron it. My hair always moist and soft - never dry.

Thats how it is for me too! I can never keep my hair moist and not dry when I wear it curly. My straight hair always looks healthy and really moist! Thats why its been straight for almost a month!
But I chose once per week, but I only use it on my roots.

I am not gonna lie, but I straighten my hair prolly once every two weeks. I know that I really shouldnt but I cant help it. I have really good straighteners that make it really easy to get good results. It doesn't take long so I am kind of addicted. Lawd help me to not destroy my hair.

Recently I began rollersetting/saran wrapping my hair and flat ironing my roots about once a week due to the problems I was having with single strand knots and split ends. Thus far, my hair is progressing very well.

I flat iron every 2 months...usually right after a relaxer...I think my hair has really improved since I use less heat my hair. Before LHCF, I used to flat ironed every single day.

I would say maybe 2x a year. Usually if I have an event and my hair is FAR post with no hope of looking halfway decent I'd break out the maxiglide to try and get a passable look.

Early last year I flat ironed about once a week. I cut that ish out and WOAH...my hair has really grown and is so much healthier. Now, I only flat iron when it's absolutely necessary or when I go to the salon for my relaxer.

I try to keep it at once a month more for a length check than anything. I have done 2x a month but I try to save my flat irons for specific stuff (holiday, party etc) Other than that it is braidouts all day.

I use to flat iron 1x weekly. I'm currently on a roller set challenge, so now it is only 2x montly. However, when I rollerset I use a curling iron on the roots since I don't own a hooded dryer. IMHO, curly or straight--this hair looks/feels healthy.

Im guilty of putting heat in my hair up to 2x a week! But to keep it straight... I have to!! When i lived in Cali, i could press get a cali press and it would last until i washed it....2 to 3wks... now, it will last for maybe a week but if i go out dancing or workout. pswch! its over for my roots....my hair sits up on my head about a good 4 inches. Now i am commiting myself to no heat for a few months.

When i was putting that much heat in my hair, the damage was actually minimal. because i would make sure that i conditioned and babied it.....but let me go a week w/ just straight heat and no conditioning and i could feel the difference in my hair...

So i think heat is doable as long as yoiu ballance it out with other very very good hair habits!

I normally do a Dominican rollerset but at about 6wks post..once a week, after wash/DC, I air dry then flat iron with my SEDU :yep:

Never really been a big fan of direct heat.
When I use to get relaxers/hair washes
I would be under a dryer...*My hair stylist told me that was better*
My hair was always healthier that way.
I would go under a dryer 3 times a month

I voted for 'hardly ever'

For one thing I am too lazy to flat iron, for two, I really need my hair cut so it will lay right, so I'm never too pleased w/ the results. I will probably flat iron more often once I get closer to my goal.
I agree..hardly ever..maybe when i reach my goal and get a good trim..:yep:

Once in a while for me. Just when I have an event, otherwise, just get creative with my hair without using direct heat. ;).
