I have a theory about OCT/MT could I be right?

Okay ladies this morning I was thinking about my NG (yes I can feel it and its only been a week! :D ). Yeah It feels long considering how old it is. Then a few hairs started shedding and ofcourse I inspected each one (thats normal right?). So as I'm inspecting a few I'm still playing with my NG and I'm noticing something. My new NG seems straighter? Less curly? Less tightly coiled? I'm a little :perplexed

Then I start looking at some of the shed hairs extra close and I notice on several there is a really tight coil about a quarter of an inch away from the bulb. But the quarter of an inch closest to the bulb is almost straight. So this got me to thinking about what could be causing this and whether or not what I was seeing is what was really happening.

Ofcourse I remember the thread and how so many women said their NG seems to be a different texture than their old NG. Even the natural ladies were saying the samething. Sereca's NG pic pops into my head so I have a visual right. Yes this will be wrapping up soon...

Finally I think I have a theory. I think whats happening is since the hair is growing so fast now it doesn't get a chance to really coil up at all. Its being pushed out just as soon as it is formed. The slower the hair is formed and pushed out the tighter the coil. Basically I think the faster the hair grows the straighter it is and the slower it grows the tighter the curl.

What do you ladies think? Is this a plausible scenario or am I totally off my rocker here?

Hmmm...That is so interesting! I know that they say that the shape of the follicle determines the wave pattern. Just contemplating your idea of if the hair is pushed through the follicle faster...thinking...thinking...if the strand does not get as much time to bend inside the follicle b4 pushing through...maybe you are on to something!! IDK! Other thoughts ladies?

In the looooooooong thread people suggested maintain your other vitamins (msm, biotin, etc) saying that since the hair is growing so quickly it may be in need oh these vitamin components. Maybe the straighter hair is partly due to a difference in composition of the strand?

I hope not! I like my curly hair :perplexed If it eventually got curly, then great but I don't want straight roots and the rest is curly. That's reverse transitioning!

P.S. There are too many smart people on this forum. I can't take it anymore! :lachen:

Exactly:nono:
Anyone not seeing a change in texture?
Maybe I'll only use it once a week.

My NG seems silkier and more moisturized. I haven't noticed a major difference in texture, just that it seems more open to styling suggestions

I would think that if it was coming out straighter, it could be b/c of all the protein - thinking back to the coconut milk/ lime natural relaxer, the combo of milk proteins, lactic acid and citric acid seems to temporarily flatten the cuticle and straighten the hair. Perhaps all the amino acids and protein in MT is doing the same thing. My guess is that the effect would be temporary though.

Hrm, that IS a very interesting theory. I don't know enough about hair development in the follicle to know if it's a 'curing' process, where the longer it sits in the follicle, the more the follicle is able to shape it...... Hrm. That's VERY interesting.

I can't say that I've noticed my 'new growth' having a different texture, though - but it's hard for me to tell what's new and what's not. :lachen:

I am using my OCT daily. So perhaps I'm seeing the growth faster and the effects faster than some? It just seems so weird to me. But very cool at the sametime.

Oh and just to clarify. The NG is not bone straight its just alot straighter than my old NG. My old NG is very tightly coiled 4b-4z type hair. My new NG is more like 3c-4a type hair. Some parts are coming in at 3a as well.

I have a few pics in my Fotki but now I'm thinking there is already some of this new NG there to in the pics? I don't know. I'm really not imagining this at all. I'm excited and very curious about this whole thing. I mean if it keeps up then I'll transition instead of continue to relax.

We shall see...

I actually added vitamins around the 25th or so of April. I didn't start using OCT until the second of may, I think. I have been taking them faithfully. Maybe the composition is different. I don't know. Thats a very interesting thought though.
