I NEED HELP!!!!

Hello everyone!

I am new but have been reading a lot of your postings and have learned a great deal from you ladies. I never had the courage to post anything before.

I have tried a few of the products recommended by some of you but yet I can't find anything that my hair likes. My hair has been very dry and now it tangles a lot. I never had a problem with that before. I am not sure of my hair type but I am hoping someone can help.

I am relaxed. I was going to a salon to have my hair treated at least every 2 to 3 weeks and to get a relaxer. (didn't notice any improvement)

Before I found this site I was only washing my hair once a week and using a fair amount of heat (Flat ironing and blow drying). Now I am washing 2 times a week. With the help of LCHF I would like to begin caring for my own hair and bring it back to a healthy state.

What kind of "treatment" are they giving you over at the salon? How long is your hair and what is the overall condition?

You may want to cut back on heat, until you figure out what the problem is. If that is not an option, use your heating tools on lower settings, and keep your ends healthy. Indirect heat (hooded dryer) is a good alternative option. Or steam (Caruso rollers) are also safer heat options.

Read the stickies at the top of the Hair Forum because there is a lot of info for newbies, to help you develop a regimen.

You say your hair is dry, so start increasing your moisture treatments. Try clarifying your hair, then follow it with a moisturizing shampoo and a deep conditioning treatment.

As for your tangling, I have found that Dominican rinses help with detangling. I recently purchased The Paul Mitchell Detangler and yet to try it but many say its good. Roux Porosity Control and Corrector is also good for that. Recently, DLewis recommended French Perm Stabilizer Plus
(by: Colomer Professional) as a detangler as well.

Other techniques that you can experiment with are:

* prepooing with oils, conditioners, or both on dry hair
* shampoo gently (use the Crown and Glory method www.growafrohairlong.com)
* deep conditioning weekly or more (balance protein and moisture)
* dailing moisturizers and sealing with oil (some women moisturize twice daily)

I am natural, but I was in tx for 4 years in school, and dryness was a problem. This may not be what is causing the dryness for you but there was a thread here about hard water and a map showing the areas of the country with 'hard water.' My geography fails me at the moment so I am not sure where houston falls on that map, but I was in the extremely 'hard water' section of tx in the dallas area. I started spritzing with bottled/spring water pretty much on a daily basis and I would do a clarifying wash about once a month with ACV (apple cider vinegar, I like the Braggs brand). The ACV does a pretty good job of removing the minerals deposited by the hard water and also from any products you are using. I also had a regular clarifying shampoo but I pretty much used it only if I had been in a pool with chlorine or I was out of ACV when I wanted to clarify.

I thought about getting a water filter but never did since the bottled water spritzing for moisture and the ACV washes worked. I remember some members mentioned that they bought the big bottles of water just to wash their hair.

I know she uses design essentials products and alwasys dc with Design Essentials Stimulations Super Moisturizing Conditioner...she also used something else but I am not sure what that was. (I know I should've been paying attention to everything she puts in my head)

As for my hair length, it is a few inches away from the middle of my back. It is thinning, weak and lacks shine (I have this one spot on the top of my head that looks like a different texture from the rest of my hair.(extremely dry) I was trying to remember when started to notice a change in my hair and it has been since I been in houston....since 2005 (I was just assuming it was stress and medication among other things.)
