Is this the worst case of PJ-ism ever recorded?

Can't believe I did this. Still I am very content with my purchases.

I got Dudleys DRC which, alone cost 47; Keracare silken seal, detangling shampoo and conditioner; some stuff I needed for the Carolyn Gray regiment, such as IC Aloe Moisturizing conditioner. Also got hennalucent, Dr Miracles hair strengthener (gee this stuff really feels good, tingly), combs, a hair bonnet, some combs, Mane and tale detangler, ION antifriz leave in....yeah i know this is extreme but i am happy w/the stuff i got

OMG. So true!

The fascinating thing about PJism is that you only end up liking or using a fraction of the products.

I just ordered something in the mail without knowing the ingredients.

And when they came yesterday I knew I'd never use them because of the mineral oil. I tried, but it seems too heavy because I'm used to products without it and I was afraid it would weigh my hair down, coat it and break it.

PJism has wasted so much of my money.

It wasn't anything terribly expensive.

But a while ago on a web site this woman with really long hair had been using Love That Tail ( a conditioner for horses).

So I ordered some. The site boasts that it's the best moisturizer to grow long 'tails' :p. So good right?

I thought I could CW with it, but then when it arrives I see it's a leave in conditioner only. I try to slather some on when I deep conditioned, but it was so heavy.

I'm like, what's in this stuff -- and it had mineral oil. I know some like it, but it's really a plastic that doesn't let moisture, water, air through ...and it can break off your hair over time. So, I'm afraid to use it. I like my hair to breathe.

Anyway, I also got Love That Tail shimmer and shine.

It's ingredients are OK and use you a dab to give great shine. It has some good oiils in it too -- and leaves my hair smooth and detangled without cones . The first ingredient (alkyl benzoate is a good emollient, I read. The second ingredient octyl methoxcinnamete is organic (natural) but isn't soluble in water ). I CW everyday, if this stuff won't wash off with water, I can't afford to shampoo daily.

It was only $20, but I'm tired to my long search for the great moisturizer. I've thrown out humectress, PM Instant Moisture (build up ), NTM (why do you guys like this).... all this month. And some others.

I keep searching for the holy grail and never find it.

Or maybe I do but am never satisfied. So, I just paid $60 tonight at Robert Craig.com to get a couple of bottles of my staple botanical conditioner that uses mostly natural ingredients. No mineral oil or other bad stuff. It's good. I should just stop buying other stuff.

Letitia, I am sure I will enjoy everything I got because 90% of the products I purchased was to REPLACE stuff that I was running out of. I have been on Carolyn Gray's regiment for two years, so the products have lasted quite a while. The only "new", untried stuff I got was: the Keracare Hydrating Detangling Shampoo, Keracare Humecto Cream Conditioner, and Fantasia's Aloe/Vitamin Anti-Breakage Formula Deep Penetrating Creme Moisturizer for Extra Dry Hair and Scalp---for Carolyn Gray's new regiment; and also new for me was Dudley's Creme press. The most expensive item was the DRC-28 at 47.99 but I swear by this stuff for repairing damaged hair so it was worth it.

LOL - Brownhaired I felt like I needed a Betty Ford-type clinic for PJ-ism! To make matters worse, after leaving the BSS's, I spent $25 additional at everydayhenna.com to replace my henna, and today will spend another $12 replacing my Elucence shampoo which I am running out of. I spent an additional $13.99 on Nexus Emergencee but I am taking that back to the store and will just wait on my DRC to arrive!

Synthia I am so glad you explained the stuff you got in detail because the adveretising can be deceiving, especially "Love that Tail". If I had seen the girl with long hair I may have brought that stuff too!

I am just GLAD my husband won't be on this site to read this thread! LOL!

Synthia I can recommend two great moisturizers -- Elucence Moisture Balancing Conditioner and Paul Mitchell Super-Charged Moisturizer. The Elucence conditioner has "olive oil-derived squalane and coconut triglycerides" to moisturize and detangle. I love this stuff and use it often, either to deep condition or a quick condition or as a leave-in.

Please do not feel bad. When I was in my product junkie hay day---trying every recommendation on the board--I went to ULTA one Sunday and my bill came up to $197 ! Not to mention I went to the Vitamin Shoppe right down the street to spend even more money, ULTRA Hair Thick Shakes, Audrey Organics products etc. But I have to say my product junkie days helped me to truly know what is best for my hair. Now that I pay extreme close attention to ingredients and have my regimen pretty solid whenever my hair shopping bill amounts to that much it is because of stocking up on Liter Purchases and doubles of my Staples or AVEDA products. :)

The most I have ever spent is probably about 250.00. That was during my relaxed days, when I was making good money, and just looking for new stuff to try. I would go to sallys once a month or so just looking for new stuff to try.

You make me feel real good about my visit to a new bss yesterday. I bought a litre of Duo Tex, Africa's Best Organics Hair Mayo, and Bigen Black Brown, total $12.01!

Now I feel justified to go back for more! They have Mizani at 20% off:)

I will try those.

I've never tried Elucence. I used to use PM supercharged years ago before joining the board. I can't remember if it had cones.

I had been enjoying PM Instant moisture, but after two weeks, my hair didn't see as moisturized as it was originally.

you need to go into rehab quick! Were you by yourself when you went shopping? Next time take your man, friends, anybody with you. I used to feel bad about $50. Shoot I still feel bad and I would never do that again. You need a time out.
:spank:

Tenderheaded I am glad I made you feel better about spending $12.01 at the BSS....Taraglam2, Enchantment-you guys made me feel much better. Since these purchases replaced many items I was running out of, I hope these last me for the next 1-2 years, or else I may do like Brownhaired Bonanza and Iwill38 suggested---check into rehab: the PJ wing of the Betty Ford clinic!

Thanks for the Reply. I hate when I order products that I dont like. More than likely I will not send them back unless they cost a lot. Some times it's not worth the cost to shipping.

Thanks for the heads up on this product.

Can I ask what is the Carolyn Gray's regiment?

Carolyn Gray's is a book called "The Black Woman's Guide To Beautiful Healthier Hair in 6 Weeks".....in her books she gives a step by step regimen for each week on what to do to your hair...she goes all the way up to 6 weeks and then you just start back at week 1 until you get a touch up.....I have been following her regimen since Jan. 2006 and my hair is in great shape, it is healthy and most importantly it is growing....she also has airdrying methods, and different types of styles you can do to your hair...this is a good book because when I first joined I did not know where to start and how to incorporate all the products together...but Carolyn Gray list products in her book that she uses and those are the same products the ladies on here use...I LOVE this book.....

Girl, if I can get any and all to get this book I will...because I know when I first joined I went out and bought products the ladies mentioned and then did not know how to use them or when to use them..it was very frustrating at first...then when I bought her book it all made since....at first I was like what is the point of having different shampoos and conditioners and so on until I found out that each week your hair goes through a different state and you have to be able to take control of your hair and not let your hair control you....also for new people starting out...I just want to recommend something that will make your new hair journey more easier and to cut down on unnessary purchases and you also do not have to use her exact products but you will have a foundation on starting your regimen:)

As I said earlier, I LOVE this book...it's right in front of me right now...and I keep it on my nightstand along with my bible.

Tsmith, I say the $300 from your boyfriend was money well spent! You will find those products lasting you at least a year or more. I brought my original set of the products in 2003 before I purchased the 2003 edition of her book and am just now beginning to run out of many of the products. Do you find the regiment easy once you get used to it? Doesn't your hair feel really healthy? The Carolyn Gray regiment is a habit for me, really.

I bought those products last December and just had to recently replace a few and added new things because I do not use the leave in Carolyn mentions in her book...maybe I will one day...YES, the regimen is very easy to follow and girl my hair is healthier and it has grown....yes, it is a habit for me as well..her book stays on my night stand....I am currently at week 6 now in her book....I will do the con shampoo and cpr treatment tomorrow.

You went to the Ulta in Rockville on Rockville Pike?

Wow, at least you spent money on stuff that you like! I spent almost $300 last month on hair products trying to find my HG, and my HG products ended up being cheap. Oh, well, at least I found what works for me (still need a daily moisturizer, though).

You can order it online from amazon.com. I want to start using her regiment but I am on the crown and glory challange now. And my DH will kill me if I buy another hair product.
