:D Unless one of the ladies that wears them on a regular basis can make a suggestion to me...

I think that the fall is thinning my hair out. Granted, I've only been wearing one not even a month yet, but I swear, that the places where the combs go have what looks like a thick part :ohwell: I think.

Is there a way to wear these things without using the combs? Or a better way of wearing the fall. Here is what I do to wear mine.

I spray moisturize w/ s-curl & castor oil after wasing & Deep cond. Then I put aobut 4 cornrows in my hair. and tie the edges down with a scarf overnight. In the am, I put my fall on without leaving any hair out, slap a headband or scarf on, and keep it moving. There is no hair out. I moisturize my edges and nape w/ castor oil 2x/day, and spray w/ s-curl at night.

Is there a step that I'm missing? SHould I not try to wear this thing Every day? I've gotten to the point where I'm 6 months post relaxer, but I don't know if I'm going to bs/transition/or relax....I want to give my hair a rest, and blah blah blah...I don't want to let the fall go.

I'm rambling..but basically, I am looking for a better method in wearing one.

ANy suggestions/comments are much appreciated

I've been wearing falls off and on for a month or so with no problems (I hope!). I wear them for 5 days at a time, then the following work week, I just wear my "natural" hair. I do have a feeling that the combs could damage your hair over time. I try to place my combs very gently so they're not scratching my scalp or tugging on my hair. I think you could wear it without the combs, but you'd have to find a way to pin/clip it on securely.

Ummm I've been wearing falls since Dec 2002 with no problems at all. Sometimes I wear them with hair out, some times I put all my hair underneath. I've heard other people say they've had problems with the combs. Maybe you can try to not put it in the same exact spot everyday? I'm sorry I can't really suggest anything. :(

sorry to hear this. i would hate to see you give it up because it is such a huge help as a protective style.

my hair did break on the sides before. but now i braird my hair underneath..take it off nightly to moisturize my hair and i also wear a wig cap (nylon) underneath. i never ever where one with out the nylon cap since the above incident.

do you wear anything underneath..wig cap?

I've been wearing mine for over a year and I follow a similar regimen as SweetG with mine. My edges are the best they've ever been; I do not brush them except for with a baby brush and I do not apply the combs directly to the edges.

I read in another thread that somone uses theirs without the combs but rather sews it on as you would a weave around the perimeter to secure it (with the hair braided underneath). I'm not sure how this would work with the bottom combs.

Not sure if that helps but good luck in finding a solution!

It may also have something to do with the placement of the fall. When I was wearing my first fall I made the mistake of placing it to cover as much of my own hair as I possibly could to make it feel secure and to also have less of my own hair to style.

I wore a fall over my natural hair. I had breakage until I realized that I needed to put the fall in a different place everyday. My hair grew really well. Anyways I would cut the combs out and use bobby pins if I had it to do all over again.

Also I used grease where the combs were positioned to prevent breakage. By the way I didn't cornrow my hair underneath I just put it in a curly pony tail.
