After 6 years of being natural and finally cutting out my texlax'd ends (about 6 inches)....I'm finally loc'd!!

Thanks! I'll go back for my first re-tightening in 4 wks and then I'll go to about every 6 weeks. I plan to maintain them myself after 3 mos or so.

Umm...I'm going to try to give you a short version . At the beginning of my natural journey...I would've never thought I would loc my hair. But over the years I grew an appreication for all types of locs. To add, my natural hair is very dense and thick and as it was growing out I was becoming more and more frustrated with detangling my hair, those pesky knots on the ends and just the amount of time I spent on the weekends trying to style my hair (which led to me texlaxing my hair and after a while I still wasn't happy with it). So I just got to a point where I didn't want to deal with my loose hair and for the majority of last year I wore my hair in kinky twists extensions.

Whew..but back to your question:
I researched SL's heavily for the last 6 mos and even visited a SL consultant for test locs. But I wasn't to thrilled with her. So, I decided to start my own locs with two strand twists. Now, those locs were doing well but after 1 month, I still couldn't get SL out of my mind. And since I'm not the type of person who lives my life thinking "what if I had done this or that"...I figured if I didn't like the SLs, it would be easier to combine them to traditional locks than going from traditional locks to SLs. So...I took down that set of locks and contacted a different SL consultant whom I hit it off with from the jump and the rest is history.

Hey girlie!! Based on the prev starter locks and from wearing twists on my own hair over the years...my ends will def seal on their own in no time. In those pics I hadn't washed or wet my hair yet. I've been told by two consultants that my hair (texture) is made for locking...and I agree now .

Hey, I can be confusing sometimes. We went 12 hours on day 1 (6am-6pm) and 14 hours (6am-8pm) the next day (we did take breaks tho') She underestimated the density of my hair. As for my ends, they will definitely seal. My hair is toooo tangly for them to stay loose. That usually happens for those with a looser hair texture and whose hair is resistant to locking. But no matter the texture, all hair will eventually loc. Thx!

Thanks for explaining. Do they usually leave all ends of locs loose or she left your loose because they are going to seal pretty fast on their own?

They always leave 1/4 to an inch or two on the ends. I guess they do that because they have to backcomb starting at the bottom, then begin locking the hair from bottom to up.
