Is it easier to go for a TWA if you're pretty?

I know beauty if relative, but I just remember seeing a girl with a TWA on YT and I made the comment that because she was pretty, it was probably an easier decision to make to go TWA. She didn't take it too kindly. :perplexed

Memba how Tyra always says if she cuts a girls hair then it's because she thinks that girl is really beautiful?

I remember when Demi Moore cut off her hair and I thought she wasn't as pretty ....maybe it's me and how I've been socialised into thinking long hair is beautiful... :rolleyes:

I think very short hair can really set off someones attractive facial features. Obviously, Halle Berry comes to mind. Plenty of people, myself included, think she looks better with short hair. It all comes down to knowing ones own face and what type of style works best with your features.
 
I think many things are much easier when you are pretty. Especially doing a baldie/TWA.
 
I think it's all about facial features/shapes, not necessarily prettiness. Not all hair styles (and sunglasses) look great on all face shapes. You could be pretty but the wrong hair cut could make you not as pretty as you could have been with the right cut.
So I think it's easier for people who have the right face shape because I think every woman should think she's beautiful.
 
lol I have seen a whole bunch of non attractive ladies with twa and I see a whole bunch of attractive ladies with twa. I never noticed that prettier girls go with shorter hair or are confident to BC because their pretty.
 
No it is not at all. I've seen many BC's...and let's just say even the pretty girls needed help. To me it's all about bone structure. Tyra only cuts a person's hair really short if they have strong features or if she feels it will edge them out more, not because they're simply "beautiful." Solange is the perfect example. She is gorgeous, but she does not have the features to carry a TWA well.
 
absolutely. long hair is typically regarded as a 'bonus' in upping a woman's physical attractiveness in this society. you really have to have the face - or else a heck of a lot of self-confidence - to rock a twa in my opinion.
 
I won't say it's easier, per se.

I will say you're less likely to get negative social sanctions for your decision.

Being tall and slender or petite and very thin with great fashion sense can be a part of this as well.

If I woman has great skin, even features, a slender body (SLENDER IS RELATIVE I'M NOT ASSUMING SLENDER EQUALS TRIPLE ZERO), a height attractive for your body type (TALL IS RELATIVE), great fashion sense, and confidence having a TWA can be a plus.

If you have okay or "bad" skin, are slightly over weight, don't always dress as nicely as you could, are extremely tall or short and do not "own" it, and your confidence rises and falls during the day then, no, having a TWA is not going to be a "cake walk".

I speak from experience on both sides of the scale. The first time I went natural I had scab hair, cystic acne, low self-esteem, I am petite and had a very quirky sense of fashion at the time (think Final Fantasy meets Victorian England). I was a size zero, however, which throws things in our thin-obsessed society.

This is the third time I've gone natural. I have flawless skin (Thanks to God and Accutane), I'm a curvy size two (lifting weights DOES make a difference ladies!), I've embraced the fact I adore girly things and wear heels, skirts and blouses daily, I own my 5'4-ness going for what I call the "Dolly" look, and for the first time I have confidence.

Having a TWA (outside of my annoying corn town) has actually become a plus. People actually walk up to me and compliment my total appearance. That has never happened before.

It's not right.

It's not fair.

I had the same value as a human the first time I BCed.

However, this time around (in bigger cities) its a boon.

Now I'm suddenly "modelesque". Never mind I'm 5'4!

Being "exotic" is thrown my way as a compliment, not a slight as it usually was (in my little corn town).

We HAVE been socialized to view long hair as a +1 for women. As other posters have said, essentially, the "rest of you" must be "on point" to be deemed "acceptable" with a TWA according to standards that never had us in mind during their creation and never will.

That said...long hair can only do so much for an unkempt woman.

It's not the be all and end all of beauty.

Not by a long shot.

eta: minus that slender thing. I have seen some chubby to big women rock twas better than some slim women
 
ppl have to know their face and bone structure...cheeks, chin, ears and etc

some ppl cant wear bangs
some ppl cant wear a TWA
some ppl dont look good with their hair in a ponytail
some ppl long hair doesnt fit
some ppl short hair doesnt fit

once you know your facial ftrs you can proceed with an appropriate hairstyle
 
I don't believe this for a minute. :blah: Confidence is what makes having a twa easier. I have a TWA and I think it made my features look even better. I don't think of me as a pretty girl, but it made me feel pretty because I am happy in what choice I made. I don't believe anyone is ugly. God made everyone beautiful. Having confidence in that, will make your hair choice easy or hard. Never allow others to make the standard of beauty for you.:nono:
 
I think if you are pretty having very short hair will probably accepted much more easily whether it looks awesome on you or looks like crap. The truth is most women and society prefer women with longer hair, so short is sometimes seen in a disapproving light. People perceive that if you're cute you're can get away with breaking some "rules". Not so much if you're ugly, even if the hair suits you.

With that said, I don't think everyone suits the TWA. I don't tell folks to rush and BC to TWA - I think it's a personal decision. Whether a TWA suits you or not is all in the head shape, imo. Some people look good with short hair and some people just don't regardless of how attractive they are. I've seen beautiful girls who look better with long hair and look just average with short hair.

When someone BCs I tend to say congrats to them regardless of whether I think they suit the cut or not, for many BC'ing down to a TWA is not all about looks. It's often about wanting to be free of having relaxed hair a.s.a.p and reacquainting themselves with the texture they were born with. Sometimes it gives those who BC to TWA a sense of achievement at the time. I congratulate them for that - having the guts to do two things a lot of women are simply afraid to do: wearing their natural texture and having short hair.
 
I think it's easier if the person doesn't associate attractiveness with hair length. That doesn't necessarily mean they believe they are pretty. Just that hair wouldn't change their look either way.
 
pretty, suitable bone structure, and nice shape head

i would think it would be easier that way-- or you could just not care how it looks.

I couldn't agree with you more. I think Halle looks better with short hair and plain with long hair. Hair brings out different features in everyone. My BF even mentioned that short hair looks better on a women with a lot of body example Mary J. Blige. But that's a guy's opinion lol. When I wear my hair straight it brings out my cheekbones. But when I had my hair short it brought out my eyes and lips. I don't think it's about being pretty or not it's about what features you're accentuating. :yep::yep:

I agree. At the end of the day, we all know how that old saying goes "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". There are so many definitions of what beauty is to different people. Some people will think you are hot with a TWA, so wont. Some will think you are just so so. Also people have their preferences which plays a part in the mix. So anyone who does rock a TWA (or really any style for that matter) has to have confidence and "swag" (such an over used term :grin:) to go with it. If you don't have the confidence people will notice and lack of esteem usually makes people look less attractive.
 
Before I BC'ed I was so worried abt this, I have never had short hair & I was really worried that I couldn't pull it off.

Since the BC I've gotten numerous compliments & have been told that I have a face for a TWA. I think I could pull it off better if I wasn't overweight, but oh well.
