the hair that makes it grow? Here is my question... if daily washing is the secret why do homeless people have such long hair no matter what their race. Maybe it's the fact that the hair is not being bothered.

I have been doing the daily rinsing for about two months. Well okay truthfully, I do cheat because I daily wash with the yellow and green CON, but it's only because nothing else makes my hair feel like it does. I mean I am ashamed to say that I go back and wash my hair after I condition it just to have the lasting slip of CON. And then I follow Adrienne's method and just do the scrunchie.

And yes I am having about 1.5 or more inches per month. But I am just wondering because typically when you see homeless people they are not sporting a clean scalp and they for sure don't comb and style either.

Very good point

I'm ashamed to admit, but yrs ago, I have gone quite a long time without washing my hair... I used to think that water made my straight hair revert, so I stayed far away from it. Surprisingly enough, my hair did not break nor fall out... in fact, it got longer... just shy of my waist. HOWEVER, now that I have a healthy regime, my hair is growing FASTER & thriving MUCH, MUCH BETTER than it did prior.

So here's a thought (based on my own personal experience).... hair will still grow with little or no manipulation, however, a healthy consistent regime will allow hair to grow faster... & definitely much much healthier

....

As for the "slip", yes Con has a wonderful slip. It's much easier for me to "detangle" my relaxed strands with con in my hair than with my conditioner.... the "slip" just doesn't last very long though

.... 1 good rinse & that wonderful slip is gone....

Sounds like you might need a new product with lasting slip, Peachtree.

I admit, that I too, used to go long periods without washing. (I won't say how long b/c it's quite embarrassing.) My hair grew also. But definitely now that I take better care of it, it grows so much better and more healthier.

Hairlove, yes, I really do need a better product.... I'm gonna go back to my Motions Lavish... i haven't used it in a month or so... I guess that I have "over dosed"

on Con....

I believe that hair grows no matter what, even if you aren't getting the proper nutrition. It can fall out, but not stop growing completely.

Now as far as the homeless people keeping the length...they are not manipulating the hair so they're not losing too much from breakage.

There is a Black homeless man that I used to see often and he has one giant loc. You have to see it to believe it. It's about brastrap length and huge.

HairLove,

Yep, its a 2 in 1

Isn't it crazy!!?? I've seen homeless people with long locs also. And we all know they're not doing conditioner washes or taking supplements. That's makes me agree that it's the lack of manipulation that accounts for the accumulated growth.

ALSO... I've seen some homeless people with all of their teeth and not too shabby looking teeth either. Then you have someone like myself who tries to take care of my teeth and gets cavities. As usual... go figure.

Re: Is it the daily washing or not manipulating ..

Eliza, ladies, there is a homeless woman that hangs out in Bryant park. I swear her hair is growing, I see her every day -- I have lunch there and let me tell you, half the time I'm sitting there trying to figure out how in the dickens this woman with obvious 4a/b hair could have as much length as she does. Of course it's not bra strap or anything, but it still has length and most of all it's growing coz I have been monitoring her since joining this board in May. I want to think it's the not manipulating that's doing it for her. She rocks it straight up in the air kinda like a gremlin and I'm sure the only water it gets is from above!!! Of course there is something to be said for air drying which I'm sure she also does. hehehe

I think it's both. Locs grow long because no manipulation means less breaking. Washing often means you are removing any build-up from sebum's attraction of dust and product residue from your scalp and at the same time stimulating it with massage...Plus you are adding moisture to your hair and locking it in with conditioner so your hair doesn't dry up and break during manipulation. Now I imagine if you decided to grow locs and washed your hair daily giving your scalp a good massage especially during the ACV rinse, then you might just see the fastest growth rate possible.

I think it's both but....

When I was younger, I got my hair washed like once a month (trifling, I know), but my hair was at its longest then, beyond bra-strap. But the thing is, my hair also didn't grow as fast, even though it was long. It took years to get my hair that length, but I could probably get my hair that length in half the time now.

Even though I like to use water on my hair alot, I also take breaks with my hair. I do not comb my hair every single day of every week. Some days I do, some days I don't. Sometimes, I'll sport a style that lasts an entire week so that I won't have to touch my hair. This also allows me to save strands, since I'm not losing any.

I do not daily wash, but water is my staple styling product.

Thanks for the thoughts ladies. So if I were trying to create a growth formula I would have to say, braids, cornrows, protective styles and daily rinsing with frequent washing. Bearing in mind hair with more tensile strength (3bs and up)would have more flexibilty in styling. But for myself being 4a/4b this will have to be it. I suppose at some point once I achieve goal length or on special occassions, I could try something different. But I really want to see how long I can grow my hair.

interesting.....i only wash my hair twice or three times per month....lol....i think my hair may grow best when my scalp is not that clean..lol...who knows...
