Is my brush making my hair fall out?!?

You guys I am currently growing out my hair, my last perm was in Nov. 2005. Everyday I typically wear low buns because my twistouts barely last a day, they become dry and bushy. Anyway I slick my hair back with lots of conditioner and I use Fantasia IC gel to tame the sides. I have these small short little curly Q's that stick up on top of my head. Are these damaged hairs caused by MY BRUSH   !!

Today I was at work and I barely smoothed my hand over my head and a strand fell out that was split IN THE MIDDLE!! You guys I want to grow my hair but I think I am only damaging it, should I just get a perm to make it easier to handle? I can not use my boar brush when I pull my hair back because my hair just looks poofy in an hour... :crying3: :crying3: :crying3:

Thanks. I tried the Denman brush from Sally's and that little plastic thing takes all of my hair out. Someone told me that they normally use their's in the shower, I've never tried that but I do know trying to get it through my dry hair is a 'no can do' my hair if far too nappy.

Not sure what is causing your fall out and you should investigate (products, tools, heat source if any, etc.) but I haven't used a brush, not even denman, in over 5 years -- I rely on my hands to smooth hair and have learned to enjoy my buns and other sleek styles even though my hair is not super straight or bone straight.

I have 4b relaxed a go 12 weeks for touch-ups and by week 10 my new growth won't lay down and I just get it as neat as possible and forget it. Took me a while though, 'cause back in the day, I would grab a brush, any brush and some gel to control those naps, but no more . . .

I cut out brushing a few years ago, for me they were a major source of breakage, especially with new growth and relaxed hair. I even try not to comb much and I now only get shedding and very rarely see broken hairs.

I'm natural as well, and I only use my Denam when I am in the shower and have LOADS of conditioner in my hair. I use it to detangle as I rinse the conditioner out. This is what I do:

Part hair from ear to ear and brush out conditioner-filled section while water runs over it. Repeat with parting in sections until I have reached the top of my head. From this point on, I brush directly back with water running on my hair and then style while in the shower.

Hope that helps.

I can't even remember when I owned a brush last. I read somewhere (long before the hair boards) that it was not good for relaxed hair and could cause breakage.

I use my comb when my hair is wet on wash days for detangling and all the other times I use my hands and fingers to style.
