Is there such a thing as too soft for your hair?

First off, Let me say that I am natural, mostly 4A. 70% of the time of co-wash, "train" it back overnite with some Elasta design foam and IC Fantasia Gel, and use a pin in bun during the day. Once or twice a month I will go to a chemical free salon and they blow it out and press/curl it. When they do it, its almost as if I am touching nothing. its billowy soft. My hair is fine?
Help. do you think its too much protein/not enough?

The most difficult thing for fine hair is to find the products/regimen that work for us. I would say that if your hair is breaking incessantly, then there may be too much protein. However, if you are experiencing hair that is mushy or feel that it has build up when you touch it, then it's too much moisture. Again, you'll have to experiment and see what products are right for you...

No I wouldnt say mushy. More like "airy" and light and I dont get this at all when its not blown dry or super ironed like they do. I did do a protein treatment saturday.

I am transitioning and i have a similar issue. I just got extensions removed and hadnt had my 'real' hair rollerset or blown out in like 3 months. I went saturday to get my hair rollerset, JUST roots blown out and wrapped. The next day EVERYONE thought i had relaxed my hair. the lady didnt even use that much heat - i had the dryer on 60 (i moved it from 70 where the stylist had it) and she did not burn my scalp blowing the roots (total miracle).
I'm touching it and am still amazed. cant decide if its a good thing or a bad thing - this light airy feeling. i wonder if i notice the 'thinness' more cuz the extensions are gone and my ends arent blunt - idk. And i would like to trim my hair myself but its so soft and whispy i have no idea at what point on the strands i should trim.
Btw - i had the stylist use the Aveda Brilliant - the first time i used this at the salon. It just weirded me out b/c when i use the same thing at home (without heat) my hair is sooooooo thick and curly and hard to get into, and after one little roller set it almost seems toooooooo easy - lol. i know i'm wierd.

I think that some people have hair that is just very fine/soft. I've been told that my hair feels like feathers. To me it sometimes feels like cotton candy. I do regular protein treatments and my hair is not mushy but it is soft. Sometimes I'll add setting lotion before I roller set or blow dry to add some substance to it but usually I don't bother.

You two hit it right on the head. Soft, wispy and cotton candy-ish. Interestingly enough, I have just come out of sew in weaves after having them for years so maybe there is a connection like with the braids?? I am also pleased to hear you do rollersets on your light, natural hair. Just have it blow dried first right?
IT doesnt look invisible but it sure feels it

even though i'm relaxed: i can relate to thinking your hair is a certain type: then when its professionally rollersetted or blown straight: ur hair feels airy: hair almost feels like silk: i dunno: maybe its u have fine hair or this could be a sign of healthy hair: well thats how i look at it
