LOL...I guess its a setback then...

I had the same reaction when I had my last setback. I was sick to my stomach at first, then I was happy go lucky because I got a cool new cut.

I think it's shock. The reality of the situation didn't fully set in until months later (especially when several of my length twins reached MBL) by then I had moved too far away to go back and beat that @$$. Look at the bright side, at least you got rid of your relaxed ends, OP. **hugs**

Wow, my mum also combs my hair with a fine tooth comb when she's about to braid it ... I really need to tell her to stop that though :-/

Sorry this has happened to you OP :bighug:. Well at least you are somewhat near BSL. I am nowhere yeah that :(. You'll recover :yep:

OP you are really a calm and patient person. I have to say that you really handled the situation maturely. I just don't understand why she felt that YOU didn't need something that was on YOUR own head. I'm just curious I mean was it bothering her to braid it? I would have flown off the handle if she chopped off 5 inches of my hair...natural or not. I'm glad you are able to have a positive attitude about it OP.

I bet it was bothering her to braid it... I think she was being lazy. Trying to finish sooner by removing some of the length in what is probably one of the longest areas. As our hair is growing (especially if we are growing out layers) the crown can be so long.

I'm so sorry this happened to you, OP. Maybe you can generally keep your hair hidden (in cornrows and such) for the next 10 months til you get your 5 inches back?

i hope your scalp is feeling better op. my scalp is tender just thinking about the pulling and tight braids. i bet the under-reaction is based on "what you cant see cant hurt you" since its all braided up, and with knowing your going to cut it anyway, but still... i bet its frustrating. i think i would be scared to reveal my true hair in fear of what my "new" length would be. i had my real hair cut off in braids before, so i know that fear. *shivers* anyways, i'm sure it will grow back with good health anyway. also, since you've been rebraiding your hair, are you able to braid your whole head yourself? that way you can cut out the middle man in the future? if not, whew, heres hoping you find a quality and gentler braider in the future.

She wouldn't have been able to say the word scissors without having an anxiety attack by the time I was through with her. I would've literally had to pray. That is....rifreakindiculous. Don't give up girl. One thing about hair..especially natural hair is that it is resilient. All kinds of crap can be done to your hair and at the end of the day it will continue to grow...unless it's something really serious of course. And it can regain health and strength with some determination. But NEVER do that again..you hear me? NEVA EBBA EBBA. Bad girl! ok I'm done..lol This too shall pass. :)

both. its really sad coz i had 19 months of natural hair.

how much damage was there when you took all the braids out? I've only taken them down one by one to redo them and its hard to assess the damage coz I don't know how much hair she used for each section. its visibly thinner though :(

Aw, try not to think about it! I can't pinpoint what exactly made my relaxed ends break. But there was damage from the woman detangling with a toothcomb -i didn't know she did till my sister told me after. It Hurt! Then with the take down -damage from me washing my hair after it wasn't properly properly detangled after each braid was taken down. And now thinking about it, damage from wearing pick and drop the second time round (not braiding fully past my hair). By the time, i took down my 2nd set of extensions, most of my hair was natural.

Thank you for the support, advice and words of encouragement everyone!!! I'm truly grateful. I've learned my lesson and will definitely be doing my own braids from now on, and plan to keep my hair hidden till next summer. But thank you all so much, you're truly wonderful people. :)

Ouch!!!

Next time detangle at home I guess. I hope you don't use this braider again.

5 inches huh?... You are a saint my friend.
