I'd like to know, what name or type of detangler do you swear by that you use on a regular basis? Im having problems in this department especially as my hair increases in length. I was looking at Nexxus Ensure today...has anyone tried it or had better? I need help. I used the Garnier Fructis 3 min mask last nite and was somewhat disappointed. My hair smelled good, felt strong and soft at the same time, but those d*mn tangles had me cursing (I clarified first, so that may have something to do with it). I'd like to find something that I can use all the time and that will have those tangles slipping right out.

Try Biolage daily leave in tonic, its a moisturising and detangling leave in conditioner. My hair is quite thick and tangles easily, and this really makes it easier to comb. lots of ladies here have tried it with success.

Nexxus ensure is NOT a detangler... Trust me

I am usually detangled fully after washing out my conditioner (I use keracare humecto which is an excellent conditioner as well as detangler) so I just follow it up with Aroscio leave in, which is also good at detangling but again, as I said, I am usually fully detangled by the time I step out of the shower.

Sithembile, thank you I will definitely check Biolage out.

Caramel Honee, I could have sworn that I read Ensure as a detangling conditioner. Maybe I got confused with all the other Nexxus names in front of me...but thanx for the rec. on Kera care, I never heard of Aroscio though, is that sold in the regular BSS?

Leave-ins mixed with some kind of oil work really well for me. As far as actual conditioners, I found that LUST and Skala really made my tangles fall. Although I like them both very much, my overall favorite conditioner is Kenra Moisturizing b/c it provides slip, helps detangle and is moisturizing.

I have to say today after shampooing, I applied V05 Strawberries and Cream to detangle quickly before using my Queen Helene's Deep Conditioner and I used just a palm sized amount and my hair detangled almost instantly...but I just don't think the V05 gives enough of the other properties to use alone often.

Lots of conditioners have great detangling properties, but I'd say the absolute BEST detangler is Pantene. (I use R&N)

I like Herbal Essences Intensive Blends Deep Conditioning Balm. It really detangles my hair. I also like Infusium Leave in. I find putting coconut oil on my hair before I comb it also helps a lot.

Thanks Allandra, that site had a lot of interesting products from Skala

Supergirl, Pantene is another I had considered, but the reviews had been mixed. It's too bad that ALL hair products in the BSS dont come in those cheap sample packettes so that we can try them out first

Thanx jrw, I have coconut oil. Infusium is like Surge to me. It helps, yet it brings so much strength that it makes detangling it a little tough at times. I was looking for something very slipperey. And balms sound interesting as well.

I really appreciate your responses. Sometimes things seem to work the first few times and then they kind of stop working. I never understood that. It's like just when you think you got a regime together, you have to improve on it again

Another thing I've done with leave-in conditioners is to add a little oil to them and put in a spray bottle. The oil assists with the detangling and the spray bottle helps me get better coverage of my hair more quickly.

Nexxus Y Conditioner is the best detangler I've ever used. Biolage Detangling Solution and LUST are also good.

OK...again everyone is making wonderful recommendations. I can really appreciate that. But what is your hair type ? Hair type make a HUGE difference when applying products and and their results. What may not work for type 4 combination hair may work wonders on type 3 combination hair. I think (or know) this issue is really important to educate others (including newbies) on different hair textures.

<<wonders if she is the only one that detangles with shampoo instead of conditioner? i find that shampoos ofer a lot of slip. but thats just my hair..

I'm 3c hair type/relaxed and love LUST conditioner for detangling. It is the best I've found at making tangles fall out

Aubrey Organics GPB is also a great detangler

Biolage leave-in tonic or a thick serum like John Frieda relax texture correcting Serum

NOTHING works during weeks 6-8 post touch up when the relaxed hair is all tangled and the new growth is over an inch long. Yes, I'm bitter.

I'm a 3c/4a. Speaking of hair types, didn't we used to have our hair types listed under our names? What happened?

Yes, we used to. The feature was taken away after one of the board crashes.

My natural hair appears to be at least 4 types... my nape is a 2c/3a mix, and the rest of my hair is a mixture of 3c and 4a ( I know this probably sounds silly, but there is no other way to describe it). I cannot really assign any one type so I dont bother too much with this system. I think Im going to purchase LUST when I go back to the BSS and hope for the best.

I definitely agree with BrownRelaxedHair on the LUST.

I'm natural and have mostly 4a with 3c on the crown and I must say that LUST lived up to my expectations. It took me a long time to try but when I found a sample package I tried it and the tangles just fell out of my hair. My hair dried so straight and soft it was incredible.

Im glad this topic is open cause w/my hair after i wash it(like today) the roots which is the natural part dry up SO quick. I dont get that. The rest of my hair(which is the more permed part) still damp and real moist. I was wondering on what to not only stop the tangles but also what i can use to put on my roots so that it dont dry up and out. I'm also tryin to do this ponytail thing for my ends but its gettin difficult cause i find myself always havint to use heat to smooth out my hair or a comb and brush. :P

I'm transitioning & my new growth is VERY thick & the back is very coily. If the coils tangle, they're a knotted mess.

So, I'm having to take extra steps to avoid tangles. I'm finding that doing a pre-shampoo conditioner treatment is awesome.

It loads my hair with "slip" & helps to keep my hair moisturized so that the poo (even clarifying) doesn't strip away too much natural moisture & oils (leading to tangles).

Basically I'll add a moisturizing conditioner (Lustrasilk Cholesterol) onto my dry hair roots to ends & let it sit for maybe 15 mins (the time varies). Then proceed to rinse it out & follow up with my regular poo routine.

This works so well that it's not necessary for me to detangle before getting started. I'll just use my fingers to detangle while the water stream is rinsing out the conditioner. My hair doesn't even have a chance to tangle during nor after shampooing. By the time I apply my conditioner, my hair feels like it's already conditioned!!! (which it is...loads of slip & moisture

Sorry for being long winded... I get a lil carried away sometimes

edited to add: I'm 3c

Hello. I am new to the board. I do not know my hair type, but it is a few inches below my shoulder.
I have been using Revlon's Aquamarine conditioner for tangles. It's just as good as Aussie Slip, IMO </font> .

keke, If you're looking for something to keep your new growth moist - try Carol's Daughter Healthy Hair Butter. My hair never dries out with this stuff!
