Put in 2 strand twist the first-time in a couple of months. My ends are better than they were in February. But I definitely need to do a microtrim at the end of June. Then I will do 2 strands again so I can compare.

I won't be out of the woods until I can even out my hair towards the end of the year.

I tried a different combo this time. Instead of leave in I sprayed my hair with Camille Rose hair and braid spray and then used the KCCC to twist. Will see how this works.

Imagine, spending your limited time calling around different stores searching and you have to locate the store, get the telephone number and call and get an answer to your question. Imagine, physically going to these various stores dotted around a rather large town, using public transportation, which takes you some days to get to each one. Imagine arriving at the store and having to pay a premium for the product because they only have the larger size which costs you much more than the size you wanted to buy. Imagine having done all that.

You use the product on your healthy hair. Your hair that is the longest length it has ever been. It is the healthiest and thickest it has ever been. Imagine two months later your hair starts coming out and you have giant, heavy balls of hair. You realize the product you paid so dearly for in time and money to buy, is the reason you are paying even more dearly. That same product destroyed your hair. It has cost you the very hair for which you bought the product to care for. Talk about cruel irony.

The Setback Chronicles

The product that did this to my hair was Olaplex. But one man's trash is another man's treasure. The point is not to warn off anyone of the product. It is a reminder that set-backs can happen at any time. You may use all your precious time, your limited money and put it on hair that you have grown so painstakingly with great care and over a long time.

That's what makes a setback so devastatingly disappointing. But, a setback does not happen because you are stupid or negligent. Setbacks sneak up on you and creep into your hair life and impact you at points of weakness.

Those points of weakness can be a weakness or lack of knowledge, or a weakness in or lack of experience.

Herein lies the blessing in the lesson. Here in likes the blessing in disguise. Here in lies the hidden gem for you to mine and find, ONLY if you don't give up, though!

A setback can help you strengthen your knowledge and identify your lack of knowledge and provide valuable experience you can use to broaden and deepen your knowledge about your hair and about yourself.

It can be the catalyst to take you on a journey that is far more rewarding than you could have ever anticipated or planned.

So, as we had to the cornerstone month of June, the last month of the first part of the year, I hope you keep in mind that you will always have gaps in your knowledge and experience as it relates to your hair. The idea is not to let that keep you from taking risks, but to remind us to tread carefully when it comes to our precious, hard-won, healthy hair.

And if you do not give up, no matter what happens, a setback becomes a set-up for a comeback!

So beautifully stated. Thank you @Chicoro

This woman has such cottony, soft, beautiful gray hair. She is wearing it in a protective style, a bun specifically. AND she is a gorgeous, vibrant 100 years old!
The thumbnail on this video does NOT do her justice. Just skip to the 1:03 minute mark of the video and watch for a few seconds to see what I mean.

She is so beautiful. I would love to just sit with her and hear all her stories. I know she probably has a lot of wisdom to share.

I am the observer of patterns Queen. I see a pattern with a lot of black women who are 80 to 100+, who look good and who are mentally sharp.

These women tend to fall into two groups. The leading profession is teaching/education.

The next one is nursing/healthcare.

This lady is an educator.

It also might be these fields were the main two professional areas open to black women in that generation. Hence, most of them were either teachers or nurses. I’m not sure.

Connected to their professions, many also seemed to have done well financially.

The other component seems to be a generosity of Spirit connected to a strong belief in God.

The way she moves. Her skin. Her hair. Her clarity of mind. Her eyes. She really is lovely and for me, awe-inspiring.

My shower mirror fell off the wall. Decided today that it's a good thing. If there is no mirror then I don't have the temptation to keep doing pull test. I will just have to wait until my length check pictures. This is better for my sanity.
Glad it didn't cut you. When are your length check pictures due? We'll we be getting to share in seeing those?

It is an unbreakable one. I don't know what it is made of.

I plan to do length check pictures the last weekend of June or the week before. Will blow dry and do a mini-trim.

I decided to color my hair more often instead of letting it get to a point where it drives me crazy and then coloring it. So, I may do a length check every time I color. And I may do my micro trim every time I color. But if not then I will do every 3 months - June, September and then December. I will reassess at the end of this month.

Of course I will be posting in here

Goodbye June! It's the last week in June. You know what time it is. Tell us how June went for you!

There is chaos and turmoil in the world. We cannot control it. But we can maintain some semblance of inner peace and calm. Ladies, focus on yourself and focus on your needs.

Don't minimize the importance or impact that hair can have on your well-being. It's something within your sphere that you can leverage and optimize to help keep you feeling good!

Chicoro June 2025 Update:

How are you progressing?

I still have not cleansed my hair. It has literally been weeks. What I try to do is gently unbraid it and finger comb it. I heard several hairs break and snap as I separated my braid apart. But, that is not unusual. I did a session this week when I removed shedded hair and then re-moisturized and rebraided my hair. It is not ideal but it is what I am able to give right now.

What are those ends looking like?

Honestly, I don't know as I have not looked at or examined them closely. But, I continue to keep them oiled and lubricated with Shea butter and balled up and secured with a coated, rubber band. I have extended my trims from every three (3) months to every four (4) months. Thus, I am not due to really address, examine or trim my ends until the end of August. That's a whole two (2) months from now.

My trim time seems a long way off. Usually, I feel like every time I turn around it is time to trim my hair again, like in 2024. This time around in 2025, trims seem like they are taking forever to come around.

Have you had any epiphanies?

Not really, just reminders to myself. The main one is to just leave my hair alone when I am not able to focus on it correctly or take my time to do it right. One day of mishandling can set me back month, if not years. I am tired of having set-backs so I try to mindful of doing what I can to avoid them at this point in my hair journey.

Have you set bolder goals?

No, I'm just trying to cleanse my hair on a regular, consistent basis and I am having difficulty with that. I started out overwhelmed by my life. I realized being overwhelmed wasn't helping so I try to take things one at a time. So, at some point I will get to my hair.

Have you pulled back on some goals?

Yes, at this point in my life, which I hope is temporay, I am not able to weekly cleansing of my hair or even two week cleansings. So, I do it when I can and when I am able, with as little self-judgement as possible.

Have you had any realizations about your hair or your hair care practices?

Yes, being consistent is extremely challenging for me as it relates to my hair. My best bet is to do my best to keep it moisturized and the ends protected.

How is your consistency?

Is good considering my current circumstances. I keep going.

Extending grace to you?

Yes, I accept that I am doing the best I can for now. My hair still looks cute to me and I feel like it is protected and moisturized.

How are you progressing? What are those ends looking like?
I think progress is going well overall. Apart from retwisting individual twists and trying to keep my hair lubricated and moisturised, @Chicoro, I also haven’t been wetting or cleansing my hair as often as I’d like. This is down to the nature of this style. I finally did wash my hair on Saturday, and while I had a fair amount of regrowth, I experienced so much slippage that I had to redo every twist, which was annoying but expected. It meant that I got to check out my ends and they look to be doing well. I was tempted to trim since it’s been a while, but I wanted to get the job done a quick as possible, and my ends didn’t look in bad shape. I was a little worried about how they’d fare being wrapped/ tied at the ends of my twists (in order to create the bob length).

Have you had any epiphanies?

Not really, no.

Have you set bolder goals?

No. I intend on growing healthy long hair.

Have you pulled back on some goals?

No.

Have you had any realizations about your hair or your hair care practices?

I am doing less ‘care’ (I.e. washing) in order to maintain this style, but I really like this style lol. Hopefully my hair and scalp health is not suffering in the long term.

How is your consistency?

At the moment, I may not be washing as often as I’d prefer, but I am still moisturising. The frequency has declined compared to being in braids.

Extending grace to you?

I am.

My hair was to TBL, but I just cut it back to hip this morning. I have been on the road to back to thickness and I feel like i am finally there now.

The checkmark is placed where the crack is... lol a creative way to avoid overexposure and prevent my booty all out lol.
No checkmark is after this morning's dusting and trim/cut for fullness. Normally it takes a week or 2 for my hair to swell a bit to look this full. Now it is like this day one. So I am happy.

***in this case the doorknob isn't a good marker since I bent my knees.
My hemline is even. I just should have combed out the right side better in the photo where the left looks longer.

I started out overwhelmed by my life. I realized being overwhelmed wasn't helping so I try to take things one at a time.

I'm glad you are taking things one step at a time and taking care of yourself.

Our ancestors washed their hair whenever they got around to it and they had healthy and long hair. So, I am believing you will be fine.

I am calling upon the hair gods of our ancestors for you to get you through this period

All of it is just wonderful.

I will update this weekend. I'm going to try this Chi Color conditioner and see if that does anything :look:

Either way I will cleanse, condition, blow dry, trim and take some progress picks.

Not sure whether I'm going to do Saturday or Sunday. Either way, I'm walking the next morning and going to sweat that stuff out  It is so hot in the mornings even for walking.

That third picture is Everything! So pretty and silky. I want to reach out and touch your hair.
