I don't know the model #. They don't have that many options. My receipt said Split Ender Pro with charger and it has the two different blade options. It has a rechargeable power source now and doesn't need batteries.

With 2 passes using the 1/4 blade it only removed this small amount.

Yeah, they definitely gone and gotten all fancy, with rechargeable batteries,two blades and a case :laugh:

For some reason, I feel like mine had a plug, I could be wong, but I don't recall it needing batteries. I really hope it's not batteries, because, it's likely that the batteries would still be in there, meaning the acid will have leaked by now. I'm going to dig it out tomorrow and have a look.

I vaguely remember buying it for around £30 from eBay, now......

I know my first one was expensive so after 10 years I didn't think the price was bad for me because of how it works for me and the improvements. I paid full price for my first one. Maybe it was $129 or something
 
Where to start…I’m 70% done with my first install mini braids this year, after I mentioned earlier this year that my hair is too soft for this style. My hair is not too soft, it’s just low-density. This statement appeared to me after perusing my hair album and looking at old pictures of me in minibraids. My braids looked good, they were just scalpy.

From what I can remember, I didn’t care for the take down. Yet here I am with a soon to be fresh install.

Why the change…I was trying to figure out how to style my hair for my BIL’s graduation in humid FL and my graduation right after. At first I was going to braid my hair, then was like nah, I’m out of practice. But I don’t want to pay anyone to do it. Mini braids seemed like the logical option after seeing the above photos. The issue that I didn’t realize is my lack in maintenance and care to minimize locing in my crown and webbing. I came across the Crown and Glory thread where @MzSwift , @ItsMeLilLucky , and many others that I can’t remember the names; but they provided insight on how they properly maintain their mini braids to maximize growth and length retention. The main takeaways:
-braids shouldn’t be worn past 5 weeks
-daily M&S, if you’re scalp can take it
-baggy ends
-keep ends tucked

So I’m going to follow the above rules. I will make another post with my current install and some epiphanies I had.
 
I finally got some hard water testing strips and results were as expected; very hard water. There’s a bunch of iron in our water table here too which I’m sure does nothing good for my hair. It does make sense that I prefer closing out my washday with the abc conditioner since that has citric acid and is likely counteracting the hard water.

I used the chi color conditioner for my grays and it did pretty good for that but my hair did not feel conditioned or soft until I had a chance to go over it with my overnight serum. I want to rewash with one of my hard water treatments to make sure my ends don’t become damaged.

Apparently washing hair with distilled or deionized water has given some people great results. I was looking into a deionizer that I could just connect to my shower and not have to break my neck and back trying to use gallon jugs.

This chi color conditioner sounds interesting. Is it messy to use?
 
My plan for this weekend is to wash and DC and then blow dry and do my own mini trim. I haven’t attempted to blow dry my own hair in over a year. I just hope I don’t get overwhelmed when I attempt the trim.

My last professional trim was in Jan so it’s been a little over 3 months. Then in July I’ll get another professional trim if I think it’s necessary.

Last week, I put in twists with added human afro hair. I wanted these short and they are neck length. I used the Redken acidic bonding leave-in, topped with the Adwoa Blue Tansy leave-in and JCBO. I used a little conditioner to soften the bulk human hair. I’m liking these twists. No idea how long I will have this style, but I’m gonna re-up on my Amika leave-in spray and try to keep them moisturised.
 
Hair/ ends feeling much better after a decalcifying treatment and showering in the one bathroom that has a shower filter (for the chlorine). The main shower doesn’t have a removable shower head unfortunately.

I still want the deionizer thing for softer water but I’m not sure how sustainable it would be and the 300$+ price tag hurts my heart. I cannot wait to move out of this rental into our own place but it’s gonna take at least a year and some change.

I was thinking about YOU this morning and I was thinking about my upcomong blow out of my hair this weekend. I have to put my money where my mouth is and do what I said I was going to do. That's even if the results may be disappointing!



As I was doing my braids this morning. They look and feel very thin on the ends.



So either:

  1. My hair is breaking from the ends up and I'm back in that 12 Year Break Cycle, again. OR
  2. My hair is dropping in length and has got some 'lead hairs' going to newer lengths and the bulk has yet to catch up.

I realized that since I JUST got out of my 12 Year Break Cycle in 2024, technically, I am at year 2 of my hair growth journey. Thus, I need to stop beating myself up AND comparing where my hair length is right now against others and lamenting where I think it SHOULD be by now in terms of length.

I need to stop.:stop: And say no :nono2: to this type of thinking.



Now, I have re-framed my thinking. Before, I would say I've been trying to reach a certain hair length for many years.

But in retrospect, if my hair is continously growing but still breaking, technically, I don't consider that to 'be on track'. Until you get to a point where the hair has stopped breaking, you are still trying to FIND YOUR WAY, no matter how much you think you know and no matter how long you've been doing it. 'It being the hair journey in this example. And the 'you' being ME, in this example.

Hence, I am saying that this is Year 2 of my Hair Growth Journey, because I think I have finally found my way and I am on track. Since January 2024, each time I blow dry and trim, it seems like the moment of truth, or at least a defining moment, which will indicate if I am still on track, or if I have been snatched back into the pit and relegated once again to forced labor in that perpetual, Cycle of Hair Breakage.

I sure hope that I have escaped far and away from the Cycle of Hair Breakage - forever!

I have 3 blow dryers, they're all in my opinion different. I still have the first blow dryer I bought, it still works, it comes with a diffuser, the diffuser is not big in circumference and the nodles are long, not even in length.

I have a Parlux, which is good, I bought a Willie Morrow comb that I keep on it. This is the same dryer my stylist used which iwas the reason behind purchasing and is the most expensive of the 3. I recently bought a Babyliss pro which came with a comb, big round diffuser (my main reasons for buying) and a couple of concentrator. I also got it at a considerable discount and my friend paid for it as a birthday gift.

The RevAir is completely different from the ones I have, both in the way it works and that it's like a system. I have multiple tools like straighteners, I have mini one for bangs, GHD which are the ones I'd use if I want to get straight, I also have a Remington that you can change the temperature on ( you can't do that with the GHD), I only purchased this because my cheaper ones that I used for weaves and travelling died on me while I was in Kenya. I wouldn't buy unless it was for a specific purpose that my arsenal couldn't meet or as you said, something that needed replacing.

Willie Morrow is an original in the afro-textured hair care industry. I called him and spoke to him once. I think it was about 12 years ago. I have no idea what was the impetus behind my call. Your post triggered this memory. I had forgotten all about that. He wrote a book and I had that, too but let it go when I left the USA. I've seen his comb attachment, too. They look like very good quality.

I was going to say that boiling the water might get the hard water out and deionize the water. The short answer is that some of the hardness of the water can be removed but the ionizatioin increases after boiling.

All hard waters contain temporary hardness in addition to permanent hardness. The temporary hardness exists as the bicarbonates of Ca and Mg. It is called temporary because heating it to boiling temperatures causes it to break down to the insoluble carbonate, thus:

Ca(HCO3)2 = CaCO3! + CO2 + H2O

You need to heat the water to very close to 100 C for the bicarbonate to precipitate out as the carbonate. If you have a transparent kettle filled with clear mains water from a hard-water area, you will see the fine precipitate of CaCO3 being formed when the water boils, but not significantly before reaching 100 C.

If I measure the total dissolved solids (TDS) of my mains water using a conductivity meter - in other words, measuring the total (inorganic) hardness of the incoming mains water - on a given sample, the reading is 380 ppm. Now, if that same sample is boiled, a fine colloid is precipitated whilst boiling. Cooling the freshly boiled water and again measuring the TDS, gives a reduced reading of 320 ppm, a 16% reduction in the ion concentration.

The act of boiling out the temporary hardness results in a reduction of ions due to precipitation of Ca and Mg bicarbonates as the carbonates and expulsion of CO2 which, at lower temperatures, would have been in equilibrium with carbonic acid to produce HCO3-, CO3— and H+ ions.

The residual dissolved Ca and Mg carbonates, nitrates, sulphates and chlorides, determine the ion concentrations and remain in solution as ions which still leaves a large fraction (84%) of ions in solution after a brief time (15 sec) of boiling.

Distilling the water is the more conventional method of purifying, but I don’t think that you had that in mind.

How long are you going to leave these in? Are you going to do the same process to maintain them like @keranikki mentioned that she is going to do for her hair?
-Leave in for 5 weeks
-Re-braid individual braid if the braid webs ( @MzSwift )

Additional Questions:
  1. If you don't soften the added hair, is the added hair more likely to break your natural hair?
  2. If you have to re-braid a braid that contains that pretty, blonde, added hair, will you re-add the blonde hair or leave it out the braid when you re-braid?
