My very first roller set on EVER! honest opinion pls....

i was scared. lol but you all are making me feel alot better about it.

i didnt know the first thing about rollersetting. so i just cowashed my hair as i always do. (with TRESemme smooth and silky conditioner/followed by the smooth and silky deep smoothing mask)

after the rinse, i added a bit more watered down conditioner as a leave in. i combed through conditoner. then used a fine tooth comb to section (since my hair was still quite wet the fine tooth comb went right through with no problems). to make sure the strands were completly straight then placed on the magnectic roller.

then allowed to airdry.

i dont really mind that its a little puffy, i like the thickness. but you can see my curls starting to come back in the front. i just cant keep those suckers down??!?!:grin:

I agree that the next time instead of brushing it out, once you take the rollers out, you may just finger comb it. It will retain some of your curls longer.

Wrapping relaxed hair is a feat (at least for me it is) and it takes me forever and a day. If you don't mind my asking, how long did it take you and what was the secret to getting your roots around the roller smoothly? What products did you use?

i'll def finger comb out next time.
it took me insanely long. the hair keep slipping off the roller. my hair started to dry before i was anywhere near finished, the phone kept ringing, lol.. all in all including shower and wash time about 2 hours.

ohhhh noooo. trust me i havent figured out this root thing. its still curly right up there. and they aint letting go :grin:

i not much of a product person, i just used TRESemme conditoner to wash and as my leavein, also the TRESemme deep smoothing mask to deep condition, and help get rid of some of the frizzies.
 
Oh ok! I don't know what you were scared of, you've done an excellent job:yep:... It was air-dried [unbelievable!], NATURAL hair, and u say it was ur First rollerset? Girl, u better gone! :yep:

Girl, you got your hair SUPER STRAIGHT considering:

1. your hair is natural
2. it was your first time rollersetting
3. you airdried your hair
4. AND it started to dry/shrink while you were setting it...!!!

Girl PLEASE-- you did a PHENOMENAL job!!!

ETA: Your hair is the bomb! I have never done my own roller-set but if it looks 1/2 as good as yours, I'll be stoked :yep:
 
I think it came out really beautifully. Seriously, you did a great job...considering it was your first time. What don't you like about it? Did you want it to be straighter or less poofy? If so, try the silk wrap method. But for real, your hair is really pretty.
 
It looks pretty good for your first try SG. Do you want your hair straighter? You can always apply some serum and wrap it to smooth it out some more.

Thanks for that info!

Just a little tip the next time when folks keep trying to bother you while you handle your bizness:grin: Keep a spray bottle with plain water in it nearby to keep your hair from drying before you finish. Just keep mist each section again prior to rollersetting. The reason I say plain water is that you don't want to bog your hair down with too much product and the water will smooth your hair back out to make it easier to smooth over the roller.

I wish mine came out that straight. What size rollers did you use? I always brush my curls out too. The silk wrap will help with your roots if you wanted them straighter.

You've now convinced me to try rollersetting my relaxed hair. I thought I shouldnt even bother since the new growth is crazy but if you can get results like that on natural hair its worth a try.:yep:
 
Sigh.... your hair is just gorgeous! I think it looks beautiful. I really had no idea that natural hair could get so smooth, through a rollerset.

I am even more motivated to continue with my transition :yep:

i used the red colored magnetic rollers, not sure of the actual size. though ill def be trying that silk wrap.:yep:

thanks, the spray bottle will def do me good. i kept trying to wet my hair under the sink, my clothes were soaking wet by the time i was done . lol.
 
Girl, I didn't even realize it was you and that the set was on natural hair till I scrolled down!! You did awesome on your first try. I agree with the other ladies who said that your finishing touches will make the difference. So just keep practicing, and you'll get it. Also, I don't know if you've been to Macherieamour's blog, but she has a tutorial on how to blow out the roots after a rollerset, and how to do the saran wrap thingy. Those 2 things will definitely take you to the next level :yep:

I'm amazed at how your hair turned out. You managed to rollerset your natural, airdried hair like a CHAMP!!

You've given me hope as a transitioner.
