naturals... wet buning?

I can't, my hair shrinks too much... I can barely put in in a ponytail when kinky wetand I'm past shoulder lenght...

Damn shrinkage !! I feel that even if it would be bra-strap I wouldn't be able to do the wet bun !

Me too FlutterGirl......i can't wait until i can put my hair in a ponytail - i'm sure my life won't be so consumed with 'doing' my hair.

I'll have to try bunning in the shower. I usually wait until i'm out of the shower but my hair is still wet. At that point I can't put it in a bun, it just looks like a puff cause I have so much hair. I can't believe I never thought about doing it while in the shower.

I don't do wet bunning. I would have to pull my hair really tight to keep it from going all over the place, and I can't stand tight hairstyles, they give me a headache.

When I bun, it's usually on banded or braided out hair that's not wet.

You know what? Honestly, my hair doesn't like to be restricted too much and I also get headaches if I bun too tight or wear a PHHB for more than 2 days in a row. I actually get a sore spot in my head.

Hey you guys- I don't have really anything to add about wet bunning, I just wanted to let ya'll know to also try large hair clips as an alternative- (I just started this as well) There are more ways to wear it ( I have attached an a example pic of a hair clip I'm talking about.

Naturaline-when u find one, grip your hair like you are getting ready to put it in a ponytail. Then twist (not double-standed) the hair (all the way to the end)- and roll the twisted end to the other side-then use the clip. So your hair will look like it's in a bun but the clip is holding the ends. I hope this makes sense, when I get a chance I will put a pic up of what I'm talking about. I get major shrinkage when my hair is wet so after washing I twist into 10-or 12 indiv double strand fat twists to stretch it, then I take them out and do my clip thing.

Then twist (not double-standed) the hair (all the way to the end)- and roll the twisted end to the other side-then use the clip. lsubabiedee -these types of clips are kinda hard to locate to my surprise. I for sure thought that wal-mart would have them but no luck. I got a couple of diff styles from Target and that pic of the clip is from Ulta. Hope you find a replacement

do any naturals wet bun? I do sometimes... I prefer bunning wet hair over dry hair. It looks darker and shinier on wet hair and matches my bun or braid I'm adding better.

what do you use to keep it neat/sleek looking? Fantasia Gel

how long do you keep you bun up? I usually get tired of it after 2 or 3 days and take it down.

does it make your hair too straight if its done too often? No but it does stretch it out until I wash it again.

yes, you do have to kind of experiment where buns are concerned to stop them from
looking boring and librarianish, but if you're like me... you like playing
in your hair... so you don't mind a little experimenting.

My wet bun method has evolved over the years. Nowadays, I CW my hair, detangle with conditioner in the shower, comb through with wide tooth comb rinse, squeeze out excess water, apply leave-ins (i.e. gel, oil, conditioner), then gently RAKE the top of my hair smooth with a medium fine rattail comb in the direction I want the bun to be. I used to use hair-friendly elastics, but now I use ball barrettes (like when we were little girls) so I don't have to pull my dry hair through to remove it. I don't use towels on my hair any more so if my hair is drippy, I blot it through a satin bonnet with a towel. Then I bun it all up, put a dab of gel on my edges, tie down tight with a satin scarf, and drive to work.

This is soooo cute and I love the headband. I'll be wearing this style (with assistance from my phony pony ) for Thanksgiving.

But anything, wet bunning helps me slick my hair down and set all the waves and ripples in place...

I actually find myself having to switch out the scrunchie or ponytail holder often and washing them frequently in order to avoid the mildew issue.

I talk about putting my hair in a bun in the shower after washing in my regimen here:

Since I tie a scarf down over my bun IMMEDIATELY after it has been washed/detangled/secured with a scrunchie in the shower....by the time I take the scarf off that is it...no need to manipulate my bun unless I feel it's not "shaped right".

If that's the case I may take the scrunchie off (may have to set my hair a little more with my spray bottle) and put the scrunchie back on. I may have to use some hair pins to secure stray pieces of my bun, too. For some reason I have a lot of hairs that don't wanna stay in the bun with the other hairs. They're rebellious like that, lol

I don't do buns, but I do slick my hair back into a low puff which would be the first stage before turning the puff into a bun. After conditioner washing, I apply a leave in, and smooth Fantasia IC Thick n' Shine Styling Gel over the surface of my hair, gently using a brush to smooth back, and finally, useing my hands to smooth and pull into a secure low puff with a ouchless ponytail holder. I will tie down with a scarf for 15 minutes or so before to help it "set" running out the door.

This is next day, after it's been dry and Im touching up, just using a little water to dampen and gel on the edges to re-smooth.

I definitely recommend the fantasia gel for slicking natural hair back.

I tried wet bunning but I don't like the way my ends turn out.

When I put it in a ponytail or ponypuff I use the clear Fantasia Gel with Sparklites. On clean wet hair it lays everything down and then some
