Hello all,

The main reason I have joined this forum is because I have very thick, natural hair, that goes a few inches past my shoulders, but have no clue how to keep it healthy or style it in any way other than a bun.
I have not had it permed in a very long time, and hair straighteners are kind of useless on my dry hair, so I need to figure out what regimen is right for me and what products could actually work on my hair. I have spent so much money on different products, but no happy ending yet. I found a few that do a good job, but feel like it could be even better if I replaced another one of my products.
I was going to just go to a salon every once in a while, but I am in the military and travel alot, so I am afraid that the exercising and different climates would turn my new style into just a waste of money.
Is there any way I can get my hair to be straight and healthy by myself while I am on the road? What regimens do you use? Thank you for your time!

Welcome!!!I do not have any advice ,some ladies will chime and give you more advice for me its wash, deep conditon and moisturise really simple as I have just big chopped.Good luck!!!!

Welcome
I'm pretty sure that you will find how to handle and manage your hair here. There's a lot of natural girls that will help you with our hair issues.

Good luck and welcme again!

You've come to the right place. It sounds like your hair is beautiful. Anyway, as far as a regimen you'll want to start simple. Since you said your hair is dry I think the first thing you should do is try to find a really great deep conditioner and start dc'ing at least once a week after you wash your hair.

If you check out the newbie manual there are a bunch of helpful links in there, and a whole section for naturals. Also, if you want to search for regimens or deep conditioners use the lhcf search or use google (for example you could type in deep conditioner site:longhaircareforum.com).

Here's the link to the newbie manual...

I don't know what would be best to keep it straight AND healthy with you on the road so much, but I do hope a few searches or members will be able to point you in the right direction!
Are there any products or styling options that you already know you don't want to use?

Just came in to say welcome!

There are some good past threads on here about maintaining straight natural hair. And there are also some good ones about newbies setting up their regimen. I hope you find the help you need here. :)

Welcome aboard!!!:yep:

I don't have a regimen; I do what my hair needs when it needs it.

When I first started lurking, I just read everything & eventually found my way.

How often are you doing PT? I thought of wearing my hair straight when it gets longer but I do squadron PT and I work out on my own and I sweat in my head horrible so it would be a waste.
