This depends on what your hair can take and how you treat it. I've been bunning for several years and have never noticed any thin edges, but when I extend my relaxer my edges become thin because I often get impatient and want to comb through that section very fast.
Be slow and gentle when combing/brushing your hair and if you feel that a particular area is weaker than others, give that area special attention. Perhaps a little more moisturizer than you'd give another section or parting that section and combing it seperately at first and then combing it with the rest, etc.
