I have been a memeber of Long Hair Care Forum for one year now, and my hair is not even close to bra strap or arm pit level. I wonder if the one thing that I havent done yet, is the one thing preventing me from reaching my goal...

Which brings me to the quesiton...how important is it to wrap your hair at night or whenever your lounging around the house?

This is the one habit I cannot seem to get into. This year I have made it a resolution. I obviously need to protect my hair 24/7 or close to it, because I for the life of me, cannot understand why its so hard to grow my hair out past my shoulders.

What are your thoughts on this?

Also, do any of you find that growing out curly hair is easier then growing it out while wearing straight styles? When i was younger, my stylist curled my hair on rollers and thats how i wore my hair the majority of time. When I got into college, I got into the flat iron and wrap styles...thats when I experienced breakage and ever since then, I have never been able to grow my hair long again.

I need help!:wallbash:

I've read, tried and proven that in order to retain length and move from one stage to the next is PROTECTIVE STYLING. By this i mean wearing your hair in up do styles, bagging, wearing weaves, braids, cornrows, wigs, lace fronts. Whichever works best for you or suits your preference but i would say it's almost an absolute must to do protctive styles for length retention. Moisturizing is very important too esp the ends as they tend to snap first
I used to wrap my hair every night and that really didn't help with retaining length, while it got my hair straighter, it was thinning my edges from wrapping on one side too much and it made my temples dry.
Also try to minimize heat as much as possible, maybe once a week would be fine or once per month. When i just started relaxing my hair 3-4yrs ago i would do anything to have that sleek, straight salon look. Curling irons were my dear friends until i realised that they not only caused thinning to my already thin fine hair but it was breaking uncontrolably and i just could not see any growth.
Then a light bulb hit me and that's when i started to bun my hair often and started wearing protective styles, I also didn't allow my stylist to cut my hair @ every visit i made. Now, even tho i'm still learning and i've had major setbacks in the past i'm on my way to APL and hopefully i'll see that when i relax Jan mth end.

Your hair is doing great. :flowers: Most folks notice their hair getting thicker before getting longer. :yep: Your hair is much thicker in the Sept 07 pic than the Mar 07 pic. Those are also the same months you got hair cuts, right? It might be the scissors and not your reggie that's making it hard to see progress. :twocents:

ETA: Also try not to compare your progress to others. It's not really a fair comparison. They might have joined with healthy hair with blunt ends. If you didn't then already the comparison is moot. Try comparing your hair to your hair. I'd be happy to make you a comparison picture. I really do see a lot of progress.

I must say that this is by far one of the best advise I've received since joining this site. Not only is it true, it is very motivational and inspiring.

ITA! Your hair got so thick btwn Dec. and Feb'07 ! But then you got it cut :ohwell:. I think if you step away from the scissors and do what the other posters have stated above then you will see results for yourself. Your hair is growing and has made progress. Don't be discouraged!!!! :yep:
