Have you ever heard of this or are you doing this yourself, partially perming only certain section of your NG areas?

I know some don't relax the nape, but this is a new concept to me. What do you think?

For me I am only thinking to give my nape a break from the relaxer chemicals, once my HS would slap it on and only listened once to my request to omit it from the nape.

To accomplish this I need become a DIYer and plan to leave my nape natural (hardly anything there right now) for at least for 6 months to give it a chance to grow in and be stronger.

When I got sew ins my stylist suggested I do this...thank god I didn't listen....i would look like a damn fool...

She said I should do the front to blend in with the sew ins bc I always got str8 hair

Never done it, but I can see how it makes sense. Many people have different textures and if only one part "needs" to be relaxed it would make sense to do just that, rather than relaxing all the new growth.

In your case it should be easy for you to omit the nape, I did that wen I was relaxed. If you're not comfortable with DIY, I would suggest getting a stylist who actually listens to your wishes. Good luck.

Well I used to do this with my nape and edges but stopped because I really want to see them retain their length and flourish.

i recommended that my boss do this to her edges and nape because she was balding in the front and her nape was really soft. she did it for about a year and achieved great results. her edges grew in and her nape grew a lot. it won't work for everyone, but if your edges are thinning... you might want to try it

Some of the previous postings are MIA. What's up with that?
Someone responded it wasn't a good idea I guess how it was done it the video the hair may end up being overlapped or under processed. Plus another poster comment is missing. First time I ever seen something like at happened.

I think this is safe around the perimeter of your hair, but problems may arise if you try this method on different section.

I am tired of HS, so I want to try my hands at being a DIYer in relaxing and hence I can control where I want to relaxer to go.

Hum, if I manage to do this for 6 months, I will see what my hair is like. I may go for a year. How did she maintain the areas where she did not relax?

Once person suggested to me to braid the nape area.
My nape hairs are very fine too.

It depends on the texture of your hair and how you wear your hair on a regular basis. She would keep the area moisturized and do rollersets or bun. I would need more information about your hair before I could answer the question.

I don't see anything wrong with it. I wish I would have done this back when I was getting relaxers. Instead I requested my HS to put the relaxer on my nape last due to it being fine and less coarse. Sometimes she would remember to do this but often times she wouldn't. You may get good results from it.

I have a little more hair back there now, pic was taken Jan 2011. Last night I tried braiding the nape area for the 1st time since posting - however it doesn't look like it caught some of the hairs at the bottom. This morning I took out the braid.

Braiding method: I took a little more hair from the top to make a good braid and braided across the neck.
Hair Texture: Fine, 4a/4b(?).
Relaxed - Currently 21 weeks post relaxer (aim - stretch to 5 to 6 months).
Daily Hairstyle - Low ponytail with my ends tuck in - prior was securing w/a scrungy and currently w/ a goody plastic clip (pic below)
Daily care for nape - moisturize 2x day w/ NTM and JBCO
- @ 2 times a week add Beemine serum w/sulfur mix and moisturizer treatment.
Nightly Hair Protection - Silk scarf tied off to the side above the ears.

How true to the bolded, I couldn't depend on my HS to not to apply it there or apply it last. This is one of the driving force for me to do my own relaxer.

I used to do this. Its called a halo. For me it was suggested for blending with a partial (3/4) weave. I don't see a reason to do it on fully exposed hair tho.

Glad I am long past those days tho.

You seem to be doing a really good job caring for your hair. The back of your hair looks so soft and honestly doesn't even seem like it would have to be relaxed to match the rest of your relaxed hair. You could probably just get away with rollersetting the hair.

Thanks, but pic is wet hair. If it curls up like that when dry, I uncurl by sweeping my hand through the hairs to make it look like I have more hair and thickness back there.

I am trying to be patient. As I said it has grown more since Jan, I just want more growth and more hair back there and need to figure out what is causing the spares hair. I do not like how it looks and will not do an up do style because of it.

So I patiently await and will not apply the relaxer in that area. The relaxer could be too strong for the fair hair I have there.

When I get my camera back I will take a pic on dry hair and post my nape progress.

Thanks for coming back to this thread and inquiring. I much appreciate it!
