Thank you ladies, very much. I got a few PMs asking for my regimen. I tried to respond, but I kept getting kicked off!
I will tell you that I tried a whole lotta tips and tricks offered on the board and after trying many of these, I finally settled on the following as the regimen that works best for me. I think I am a 4a hair type for those to whom that information is helpful.
I wash my hair once a week with whatever shampoo intrigues me at the moment. I rinse thoroughly and add a combination of GPB and Cathy Howse's UBH (about 50% each) conditioner. I apply the mixture to my hair, add a plastic cap and sit under the dryer from 20-30 minutes. I rinse that out and then put Keracare Humecto in for 15 minutes, under a cap with no heat. Rinse. What never change are my leave-ins: a nickle-sized amount of Keracare Silken Seal, a dime-sized amount of Kemy Oyl, and a generous amount of Black and Sassy Wrap Lotion (smells delicious and is a pretty lavender color, adds much moisture). This is distributed through my hair. I then wrap my hair, put hair tapes around the edges and go under the dryer for 30 minutes exactly. I then put on a scarf and go to bed. If I don't do this at night, (rarely) I will have to sit under the dryer for nearly 2 hours! I only use a warm hooded dryer, never hot. My hair is always well moisturized after using those leave-ins. During the week I add moisture to my ends with Cathy Howse's Creme Conditioner and twice a week or so, will add Liv hairdressing on top of that to seal in the moisture. One to two weeks out of the month, I will Surge. I take a simple multi-vitamin (Womens' One a Day) and 1000 mg of Biotin. I also supplement with 1000 mg of MSM. I attribute my growth to:
1. Moisture and NO direct heat (only the hood dryer for conditoning and then the 30 minute dry, protected by paper hair wraps)
3. Stopping my hairdresser from trimming my ends every time she saw me. My ends were never damaged, she trimmed them out of habit, I think, and just to "keep it even." When I stopped the trimming in May, my hair growth took OFF.
3. I have stretched my relaxers from every 5 weeks (yes, I did) to every 8 weeks.
4. Living in protective styles. I wore the phony pony for nearly a year. I now do claws/banana clips, etc. and buns.
