Tomorrow's (Tuesday) episode will be all about black hair.

Natural hair

Perms

Weaves

Braids

She even goes as far as to interview an AA woman who chose to have a child outside her race so her child could have "good" hair!

She asks What is good hair?

This episode sounds like it will be reall interesting to watch so please set your DVR's, VCR's whatever it is that you use just don't miss this one.

.

I'll admit this to you guys.
When I really hated my hair (all my life)
haha (i'm not sure i like my hair now)

I considered doing this too

ludicrous right??

but its so easy to feel this way in america

not only did i hate my hair but everyone around me hated it too...

I'm not sure I like the idea of non-AA people (who aren't stylists) knowing about black hair. I think when people talk about the negative things about black hair, that's when non AA people look down on our hair or have a false idea/impression of our hair... or use certain phrases inappropriately to refer to our hair like "nappy."

In example, I chose to flat iron my hair after 2 months... and my white housemate said "ohh your hair isn't nappy anymore!" I was relaxed at the time... *look*

I don't know... maybe it's just me?

i kinda feel the same way. In addition to that i think Tyra exaggerates on certain things and I don't think she will do this topic justice.

i guess we will see. I doubt i will watch it.

OMG!!! She did not say that to you! She would get cussed out.

I previewed the show on Essence. Mmmm, doesn't look pretty. I'm half scared to look at it but curious at the same time.

It took all I had to not say anything... and it took me about a week to completely ignore the situation. I'm a "pick your own battles" kind of person, plus, I know she was trying to give me a compliment on my hair in a weird way... I don't know but moments like those irritate me.

yea i have to agree, tyra tends to bring up issues of race and ethnicity that tend to divide rather than educate...i.e her episode on skin tone. she's trying to portray herself as something she is not.

this is a tad off topic but i hate how she always criticizes the black girls on antm for not wanting their hair to be cut...yet she has said herself she doesn't like to be seen w/o her weave...not cool tyra.

I'm going to tone in and see what this Tyra has to say, she better have positive attitude toward our hair even though I feel she'll piss me off lol

Theres a preview in OT..

but yea my DVR is set just incase I step out.. LOL.. I know im going to have a field day and left with alot of :ohwell::ohwell::perplexed:perplexed:look::look::look::look::lachen::lachen::lachen:

yea its only 11 minutes into it and she's already ticking me off....

I posted the exact same thing in the entertainment forum!

Was it the part when tyra explained why black ppl dont wash their hair often? I almost died when she said it robs our hair of moisture.

The author of "Hair Story" is the only person with some common sense.

I knew this stupid show would make me mad and I watched it anyway. SMH.

Ditto on the bolded. I've seen that book before and wanted to get it. Glad she was on there to remind me.

that was def one of the parts... she needed to explain that different people wash their hair when its right for them! and she never once emphasized that not all black people have the same hair texture...just as not all whites have the same hair texture.

she just really didn't do her research and it showed....now i have to go outside with these crazy people :spinning:(both wonderful and beautiful) that think they are world renowned scholars when it comes to black hair because they watched the tyra show....:wallbash:

OH YEA...and that girls's hair was NOT natural....idk what that was...it was just a bad haircut.:nono:

this ish is REALLY pissing me off! omg...these two broads are IDIOTS!!!

white girl swing!

and why is the only natural locked!?!?!??!! no naturals with twistouts, with presses or anything!?!?!?

im over it

I will not be tuning in-I am so sick of that lady and the same recycled topics!

Yeah, I used to really like her show, but at this point Tyra needs to start taking some of her own advice. She seems to have pretty much the same issues that she has shows about, but then she acts shocked that women have self-esteem issues about hair, skin, and weight. I won't be watching.

I get my fix of this debate on LHCF anyway :giggle:

Thanks for letting us know about it, though, OP, maybe I'll watch online later....

Since when did Tyra become a spokesperson for Black hair care?:rolleyes: :wallbash: That's one of the reasons why I don't watch her show. What an idiot.

Whooo. You just made my day. Thank you so much.

Wow I'm really getting pissed off. We defintely needed some lhcf heads on that show to school everyone.

All of a sudden tyra wants to wear cornrows lol..wow.

I literally choked when she said that mess. Like seriously, why couldn't any of her producers do homework. A quick search and 10 mins of reading the newbie stickie on this board would've helped.

And slightly OT: Did anyone notice that Tyra's cornrow style baby hair was darn near identitical to her LF baby hair. Distracting, much?

Spoken like a true lhcf member...:yep:

lmao yea that baby hair was broken hair....and i think she had extensions in her braid...

Why are we getting so angry about this? Tyra is just as clueless as the majority of people regarding black hair. It is an interesting topic to discuss. We have to keep in mind that our little world here is the minority. We can't expect most people that haven't been introduced to this site have as much information as we do. Instead of getting mad, we should write to her show or sign a petition or something along those lines requesting that she do an update on the show with some more knowledgeable speakers, maybe even some lhcf members, if anyone here is bold enough to go on. We can get mad all we want but nothing is going to change unless we do something about it.

It comes on twice a day in Los Angeles. I don't know which episode to watch, so I have to record both.

Thanks for the "heads up."

I didn't watch it, I had enough when I saw that stupid clip of that girl with her "white girl flow" LOL Tyra is a bafoon and what was up with her cornrows? Why did she have 2 inches of baby hair? It looks like she has a receeding hairline.
