I have begun to notice an irritating truth about my hair. I live in Michigan, every summer my hair grows and I retain length. But, every winter, my hair seems to get shorter. Michigan winter has dry, extremely cold air. When I lived in the south my hair was healthy and growing in every season. Now that it's December, I want to break that pattern, but I don't know if I can. Could it be that my hair just doesn't like dry cold climates

. But I am having problems with protective styles. It seems that the front of my hair breaks off from wearing it back. One side also breaks off when I wrap it in one direction. I use a medium boar's hair brush to smooth. Could the brush - along with me not covering my hair when it's pulled back - be the cause?
