Okay ladies, I plan on getting braids on February 5th or 6th to help push me to 12 weeks post relaxer (I'm nearing 7 weeks now). I plan on deep condtioning and doing a protein treatment the day before, but which should I do first? Which do you ladies do first?

You DEFINATELY needs to do a deep conditioner with a moisturizing conditioner AFTER any protein treatment.

Yep. what she says. the protein treatment will dry your hair. the moisturizing conditioner will restore it.

Okay thanks ladies. Can I do it as an overnight pre-poo? I want to do an egg with my usual pre-poo (ORS Hair Mayonnaise) to make it extra strength. Is that okay?

So, say I know someone that shall remain unknown that has been known to deep condition, use Redken CAT, conditioner wash, and then use a leave in. Would that be considered over-kill?

I would say deep condition first, but my concern is to be careful not to overload on the protein. There are many deep conditioners that have protein in them so make sure you don't overdo it because you can suffer severe breakage.

If you're doing a really good moisturizing conditioner, I believe you'll be okay but watch the protein.

That's a good point. I probably won't use the ORS pak to deep condition then. Thanks for the tip!

heavy protein treatments for me are Aphogee.. since this is the hardcore protein that I use right now. I use the Aphogee protein first(if I have a lot of breakage) and then follow up with my deep conditioner. If I have medium breakage then I will use my regular deep conditioner which actually has a mild form of protein in it so even after using that I follow with a rinse out moisturizing conditioner(for slip..especially the longer post relaxer I am).

So the answer to the question is.. protein 1st and then deep cond. 2nd

I tend to do this also. I'm actually sitting with a protein pre-poo on as I type this.

Thats a great idea. How long do you leave it on for and do you just rinse it out or do you shampoo it out?

I WAS IN THE SAME BOAT LAST WEEK. I TOOK THE ADVISE OF ONE OF THE MEMBERS HERE AND DID THE APHOGEE TX FOLLOWED BY QP DPR 11 (SAT UNDER DRYER FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES) AND DID A RINSE WITH POROSITY CONTROL (GREAT SLIP). MY HAIR CAME OUT GREAT. I CAN SEE AND FEEL THE DIFFERENCE.

I AM TRYING TO FIND THE POST SO I CAN GIVE THIS MEMBER A PERSONAL THANKS FOR THE ADVICE. IT WAS RIGHT ON POINT, JUST AS ALL THE OTHER GOOD ADVICE THAT HAS BEEN GIVEN ON THIS BOARD.

I'm with most of the other ladies here. I protein first. Then Deep condition. The protein drys my hair and makes it a little hard , so the deep conditioning clears that up:)

Okay ladies, I used 2 eggs and ORS Mayo to pre-poo for protein (1 hour), shampooed (first lather Suave clarify, second lather ORS Aloe Shampoo), the ORS pak afterward for deep conditioning (1 hour), and it worked out great! My hair feels much stronger and moisturized. ORS is the first line of hair products that I can use together and get super great results! Too bad they don't have a lighter moisturizer because I'd be set!

whenever i add a little protein, which is hardly ever, I do a little moisture...then the protein, then i deep condition with more moisture

I'm not a harcore protien user, but, I guess if you were to go with the hard stuff then its best to do the protien before the DC.

I mix keraphix in with my DC weekly. (for me it works)

Protein- In my case the hardcore Apogee is strengthening to my hair but doesn't provide moisture after a treatment every 6-8 weeks.I leave in a moisturizing deep Conditioner as a deep treatment.

I just learned from HERicane about mixing the two of them together.
Since the protein it am talking about(Jherri Redding natural protein conditioner) is not extremely like aphogee, this is what i'm going to try to stick with.
I'll try this tonight, and report back on my findings.

I always do my protein treatments first as they strengthen the hair but afterwards the hair tend to feel a little hard and the deep conditioning process softens the hair and makes it really supple and easier to manage.
