Um ma’am, this is absolutely NOT a hot mess! Your hair looks beautiful!I’m awaiting a hot mess of results :-( I got some rollers that are probably too small for my hair and the top of all of them were frizzy ( over 5 months post)
Attached the bonnet piece I already had to my Dyson and the drying part seems to work well
Edit: hair is ear length in these rollers lol

Okay, so even this tight granny set barely made it out alive-I was not playing around on that treadmill this morningI’m switching to smaller flexirods. I love the look of the purple ones I’ve been using with all the volume and length it gives, but I need more durability since I’m stepping up my cardio.
I just did a set with the blue rods and this thing is tight. I mean, I am looking like the aunties at church who get their hair done with some Lottabody and don’t separate their sets at all right nowbut that’s okay for just running my Sunday errands. It’ll loosen right up tomorrow morning after my sprinting workout and look fine for work.
Have you ever tried working out in two pony tails to keep your hair straight?I'm trying to not just "disappear" after having started a thread so a quick update from me: I'm going to pause my rod sets for a little bit. Between getting quite sweaty during my workouts lately and the springtime humidity, it's just not a style with enough longevity right now. There truly isn't a foam wrap in the entire world that can salvage my hair during these sprinting interval workouts I've been doing. Trust me--I tried a LOT of them
I'll probably still do a few random sets for fun during the summer, maybe for special occasions, but it just won't be my primary style for a few months. I'll revisit in the fall![]()
This is actually my current routine, along with a buff fabric tube, but unfortunately, it’s just not cutting it anymore. I can’t even really be mad because my priority is getting my sweat on anyways lol. I’ll definitely revisit in the fallHave you ever tried working out in two pony tails to keep your hair straight?
You have to let you hair dry before taking them down
I just found this as well. I may have to watch it later to refresh up on some rollersetting tipsThrowback. Look what I found. Y’all remember when Macheriamour dropped her rollersetting DVD. I might get back to rollersetting. View attachment 501771View attachment 501769
Usually 1 hour. The more I do them I know I will become fasterHow long is it taking you all to Rollerset?
Yes! I managed to get mine in that group haul that we did here a long time ago. I can’t recall the user name of the wonderful person who helped us out. I think I got some smaller red ones too. I’ve only used mine a handful of times, and never for a wet set, but I’m so glad I have them.I was going through my hair stash today as I needed to organize and downsize and I found a bag of French bouffant rollers. Anyone remember these? I may give it a try tonight or tomorrow and I’ll report back

Thank you so much for joining, @Beautified16! Your hair in your avatar is so gorgeous! I like your routine—I think if I were to ever commit to being a straight natural, rollersetting would definitely be part of the equation. You have some great product choices.Current hair stats: Straight Natural
Goals: My goal is to get back to brastrap length and have thick ends. Currently I'm sitting at shoulder length due to a set back 3 weeks ago.
Why do you want to rollerset?
I love the results that I get and it reminds me of when my mom used to rollerset her hair weekly when I was a kid.
Describe your current routine, including products and the types of rollers you use.
I need to incoperate low manipulation into my hair routine. So going forward I would like to stretch my blow dry and flat iron for two weeks and then rollersets stretched for another two weeks.
I usually shampoo 3X. I start clarifying with Paul Mitchell Shampoo Two, then I go in with a bond and/or strengthening shampoo like Olaplex or Joico KPak and then follow up with a moisturizing shampoo which is Joico Moisture Recovery.
I will deep condition with either a moisturizing or protein condition depending on what my hair needs for that wash day.
Afterwards I will apply my leave ins which are Pureology Color Fanatic Leave In and Aphogee Keratin and Green Tea Restructurizer.
My foam wrap of choice at the moment is Design Essentials Compositions Foam Wrap and my serum is Design Essentials Agave and Lavender Thermal Serum.
I am down to about 20 minutes. Honestly, the only thing that improves the time is lots of practice. I did rollersets at least twice a week from January-March with almost no breaks, trying to shave off time from every set because I like being competitive with myself like thatHow long is it taking you all to Rollerset?
Yes, I definitely relate to this rant. I don’t know why more people don’t just go ahead and say “rollerset and flat iron.” It’s okay if you just want to use this as a drying method prior to flat ironing, just don’t mislead people!Mini rant:
I am so annoyed by people putting Rollerset in the YT video name and then flat ironing the whole head AND curling the hair with a flat iron. Then using the results of that in the YT thumbnail. Like let’s be somewhat honest here. Petty me is liberally using the dislike button on that stuff.
Anywho back to searching for Rollerset with 4c hair that doesn’t use a flat iron. Not sure why I am barely seeing any 4a-c YT search results :-/ was hoping there was something to getting my ng a bit straighter
Dang this is goals!!! I was wondering how some stylists can do it in literally 10 min and I’m easily taking an hourI am down to about 20 minutes. So I gave the French Bouffant rollers a try. I loved it. My hair dried fast. I wish that I had a smaller size but it’s okay. I need to get better at pinning the roller down. For clarification are you saying that after your roller set the curls are coming out smaller than the rollers that you used to roll them with? This might be my first post.
I've been reading older rollerset challenge threads.
It takes me about 30 minutes to roll my hair.
Question: My curls end up smaller/tighter than the rollers. Do you have any ideas why?
My hair comes out pretty smooth, despite not getting the roller as tight as I need to. I think I could do it if I used the green rollers all over, but I want larger curls.
- My hair is natural
- Typical Products: Dear Mama Hair Milk & Oui oil (serum)
- Rollers: Magnetic with the snap-on caps - light pink (~1 inch) and green (7/8 inch)
- Style: I don't wear the curls. I typically create a flat twist style afterward. I use the rollerset to stretch my hair. However, I want to wear the curls in the fall.
Wow, welcome! How awesome that this is your first post. This might be my first post.

Is this straight out of the roller, or did you hit the roots with the flat iron?
Yes, that's what's happening. For clarification are you saying that after your roller set the curls are coming out smaller than the rollers that you used to roll them with?
Thank you!Wow, welcome! How awesome that this is your first post.I'm so happy to have you join us.
You might be experiencing some shrinkage or swelling that's changing the shape of the curl. I'm not familiar with either of your products, but if they don't have hold, then they won't assist in keeping that hair in the same formation as the roller. I would consider trying a foam wrap or setting lotion instead to see if it results in a more firm curl. If you like the Doux (I think that's the line where the hair milk is from), you could try their Gangsta Wrap foam to set instead.
