Do you experience a lot of hair in the sink from all the manipulation involved in setting your hair and then wrapping it afterwards?

I just rollerset my hair on mesh rollers, took them out, and then wrapped and went under the dryer for about 10 minutes. But when I was wrapping my hair there was hair everywhere!! What are you ladies using to wrap your hair, a paddle brush, comb, your fingers? Don't want to have to revert back to the flatiron

I generally never lose hair when I set my hair on the rollers and then wrap it afterwards. I generally wrap my hair with a fine tooth comb to make sure the roots are straight and then use a paddle brush after so it lays completely flat. It sounds as though you need either a protein treatment or a better leave-in conditioner/product routine. What products do you use b4 rollersetting? I find using a product with a little protein makes sure that the hair stays strong when you set it. Do you also get a lot of breakage? When was the last time you did a protein treatment?

I don't lose a lot of hair with my rollerwraps either. I lose "some" hair while rolling but I expect that since I have natural hair. I don't lose any when I wrap with my paddle brush afterwards.

See that's the thing, I underprocessed my hair last week so I did an Aphogee treatment today. I thought I'd have no breakage but I actually had more than usual and I don't think I'm overloaded on protein or anything cuz I barely use it, I'm all about the moisture!

Before rollersetting, I just used my leave-in (Giovanni Direct) and some WGO, tried to use less product to get more swang. Didn't work out too well

I rollerset, flat iron, then wrap. I loose a lot of hair when I am setting it, but not once its dry and I wrap it with a big comb, plus, i only comb once a week and wash every 3 weeks so thats expected. Aphogee did that and more to me, the protein is way too hardcore and broke my hair, that was the sart of my troubles...

I lose a lot of hair after my set is dry and I wrap. I still don't know why.

Are you guys using setting lotion? Sometimes this can be the reason. I just set with NTM leave in and flat iron with Fantasia IC serum.

I was just about to say the setting lotion! I really dont liek setting lotion. It makes my hair BREAK like cheap china. I always dilute my setting lotion by atleast 75% water. When I rollerset I usually use a light leave in conditioner. I m using Jane Carter's leave in for the moment. I also liek her wrap lotion.

I use setting lotion but I dilute it heavily. No breakage that I've seen.

I get breakage when Im wrapping after a rollerset but for me, its the only time I lose any hair so its ok I dont lose a lot of hair while setting, combing or throuhout the week. I have found that it I use a serum before I wrap, I get less breakage. I think it helps the comb glide over the hair.

I don't lose alot of hair at all when I'm setting or when I'm wrapping. I use lottabody setting lotion along with potion #9. I also section my hair while it's wet and comb it out in sections with a wide tooth comb. After it's dry I use a paddle brush. I haven't used a fine tooth comb in forever, I try to stay away from those because they can cause breakage while wet and dry. Maybe it was the Aphogee treatment you used. I use Keracare super reconstructor, it's just like Aphogee but it doesn't smell as bad and it's wonderful, maybe you should try that and see what happens

i dont lose alot of hair, i use lacio lacio instead of setting lotion and i wrap with a wide tooth seemless bone comb

I do lose some hair when I wrap it after roller setting it. After I take the roller set out, I like to let the curls fall some which I think helps with the shedding. I wrap at night with a wide tooth comb and I just make sure to take my time. But this is the only time when I have a lot of breakage so I don't worry about it.

Thanx for the help ladies! For those of you who aren't losing much hair while wrapping, do you moisturize your hair after taking the rollers out and before wrapping? And if so, does it weigh your hair down? And what do you do if you have a lot of new growth? I think that may be contributing to the problem, I'm combing my hair into a wrap but i have ALL this new growth sitting under there. Guess I should flatiron my roots before wrapping.

I don't get breakage but I do see a few long hairs. After I take out my rollers I moistuize in sections first (concentrating on my ends) and let it sit a few mins before I comb out the curls and begin to wrap. Once wrapped up I spray a little oil sheen and tie on my scarf. When I am ready to take the wrap down appy a little moisturizer to my hands, rub together and smooth onto my wrapped hair and then comb out the wrap. I do agree that a lite serum will help glide the comb thru your hair but I would apply a little moisturizer first.

I don't moisturize after taking the rollers out. I just use my paddle brush and wrap. My hair is natural so my roots are not completely straight either. Though, since you are relaxed with new growth, that could be contributing to the breakage.

After wrapping I put a little HB carrot oil or my oil mix on the ends . It never weighs the hair down though. Generally if you wrap your hair tight enough it can most of the time straighten out your roots, adding a little extra product to them b4 wrapping helps straighten them out also. Rollersetting is my transitioning style, it seems to be the only thing that I can do to my hair that keeps it looking straight and not like I need a relaxer. I've never flatironed my roots before but I would think that that would cause more breakage than just plain wrapping it after taking the rollers out. How many weeks post are you?

no i don't moisturize my hair before wrapping, i use a leave in conditioner while rolling instead of using setting lotion so there is not a need for me to moisturize again

And what do you do if you have a lot of new growth?
i use a comb to smooth my roots before rolling and i make sure my hair is rolled taut, my roots dry fairly straight, when i wrap i do so in sections and it minimizes breakage

Well, I was 10 weeks post when I tried to self-relax two weeks ago, but since I severely underprocessed my hair I would just say I'm 12 weeks post in some areas. My ng does get straightened a little from rolling my hair taut but even with my leave-in, my hair feels dry when I'm wrapping it. I think that's contributing to the breakage as well.
