Search and destroy:How do you recognize bad ends?? Is it the brittle ends that never straighten ( even after a bkt its still brittle and weird)? those parts that feel somewhat dry no mater what is done. Is that what I'm supposed to cut off?

I look for splits, strands that get thinner right at the ends, and strands with bubbles in them.

I'll be watching for more replies!

Since I'm a non heat using natural, splits and knots and a thin end of a hair (meaning there was a split and another piece separated) When I was relaxed, I'd look for the ends that were brittle as well.

Sthe ends are hanging on for dear life (bent at 90 degree angle), there can be white dots on the ends of the hair, or the strand may be actually splitting. I look at my ends in really bright light.

my hair is natural and not particularly long so i don't spend much time 'looking' at my ends. mostly i rely on 'feel'. so while twisting or plaiting my hair i am constantly feeling the ends for smoothness. same while detangling. hair that does not feel smooth gets cut and it's always a case of the dreaded ssk. when i do look at my ends tho i can see that i don't really have any splits which is another reason i don't spend too much time worrying about it. since i'm plagued w/ SSKs and one can always feel an ssk, even in a large clump of hair, this method works best for me.
