Sew In Weave or extentions?

I know nothing about these. I have never worn a weave or a wig or extensions...I am sooo clueless but I saw this woman with a curly sew in and it was BAD! I loved it. It looked so natural. So how do sew ins work? I'm looking to just add length to my natural hair, so would extentions be better?? Would I be able to put my hair in a ponytail if i got extensions? How much do they cost to install ( in Los Angeles?)? I know I know, too many questions, but I am ignant! HELP ME!
