I know of shampoos and conditioners that close the cuticle but does anyone know of a shampoo or conditioner that actually opens the cuticles?

Thanks!

I don't know if I can help yet, I need a little more info. What do you want to do with it? Are you trying to clean deep within the strand? Remove buildup? Prep your hair for some kind of processing?

I wish to prep the hair for processing.

Thanks!

I don't know if this will help at all, but this article says that a clarifying shampoo can be helpful to prep the hair to accept processes. I'm wondering if a chelating shampoo is what you want. Although it doesn't actually open up the cuticle, it will remove any deposits that have built up making the hair more accepting of processes.

I hope someone else who can help better than I can will chime in.

ETA: I happened to find this when I was searching for the answer to your question. Look in the first post for info about baking soda and water. I didn't read the whole thread though.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! That is EXACTLY what I needed!

I am trying a little experiment next week :sekret:.

I will report back with what I did and what the results are by Thursday.
