It seems to me that you just played into her hands. She wanted to get your attention by testing you.

Some people are like that especially our women on the job--not all though. I don't have this problem with coworkers of other races, but I very rarely work directly with African American women.

If I'm a new employee, and I'm put near them, sometimes I noticed a competitive spirit. I play it off like I don't know what they're doing. I just deliberately ignore them by not confronting them or getting angry.

Then they can't figure it out, they are puzzled because I don't stoop down to their level. I guess they're trying to "feel me in," but they then realize that I carry myself in a professional manner and they can't "goof off" with me.

When they wear their hair down, I don't take mine down so they can see the length. I leave it up, because I know they're going to be shocked when they see my longer length.
