Hey ladies
Okay this is it I'll let you gals be the deciding factor should I get a weave or bun for maximum growth. I did not think my hair was long enough to do an updue but I realize I may be wrong. Anyway- $ is tight but i could probably swing the weave but I have a wedding to be in in Nov and I wanted to keep that puppy in until end of Nov. Please help.

hmm.. i'm not a fan of weaves cause most of the time they cause more harm than good. so i say go for the bun. when the wedding swings around, just wash, condition, flat iron or curl your hair. you'll be fine.

I think your best bet is to go with the bun, at least for now. Later on, if you are so inclined, you still have the weave option. I personally don't believe that weaves create an optimum condition for most people.

I agree, the tangling, matting, and shedding, I couldn't see myself doing it anytime soon.

I chose the bun!

i love weaves but really depends on what your doing with your hair? if your mtg and u know u have fast growth then i would do the bun... if your just co/washing and simple stuff and not putting any topical things id do the weave but if you are the bun is best bet so your hair wont get matted

Thank you ladies- you gals always answer my questions. I think I might be bunning it (well at least until the wedding)- I am a bit afraid though because my head is huge (also i never wore a bun). I have to go now and look up how to do a bun that i can wear outside.

Why not alternate? That way you could bun for a month and then get a sew in for another month or 2. I did that this summer. Went from sew in to bun a month a piece. Hair grew really well and I saved the money I would have spent getting a sew in back to back.

Buns are sooooooooooo wack to me, I say weave, get some tips from Renice's album, or maybe try clip-on extensions!

Girl, do anything else besides the weave. I purchased high quality hair $200 for a 14" bundle and my hair dresser weaved up my hair for $200. It was the worst weave I have ever received - tight as hell! In one week, a small part of my hair line was gone  In addition to that, at nights when I tied my hair down with the scalf, my head scratched the daylight out of me! It was painful! I had to soak that sucker (my scalp) with oils oils and more oils. The only thing that helped was Dr. Miracles healing oil (the one that gives the scalp a tingle). I had to take that sucker (weave) out in one week!! :ohwell: All that money down the drain.

I DC with emergency, blow dried and braid it up with braid extensions (I did myself - took me 6 hours!) but it sure ain't tight! and my scalp is now at peace. No more agonizing itching at nights in my scalf and I am babying my edges back. What a big waste of my money!! Do the bun, braid or whatever but if your scalp is not used to weaves, think twice before you spend money to put it in.

I say bun it. I've been bunning for some time now and have seen results. Moisturize, seal and baggie those ends and put on that bun. I wear a very small bun so that it's now so obvious. Also, switch earrings, try different barrettes, scrunchies, part your hair to the left, part it to the right or pull it back, etc. Beileve me, there are days when I'm sick of it but the results speak loud and clear. HTH

Good idea.

I personally don't like the sock buns because they often look too firm (in search of a better word) and stiff. There are some other protective styles, as well. You could just clip your hair up so that it does not come in contact with anything.

Ladies you guys are the bomb!!! I decided to do the bun thing for a while. Although I have the biggest head in America I think I need to do the damn thing for a couple of months. I am going to post pictures later tonight.

Thank you so much guys ;););).

great!

I'm just seeing this post, but I was going to say bun!

I've never worn a weave and not a fan of them, so I voted for the bun... i'm bunning until December myself.

Whoa I am so sorry about your weave experience. I am thinking about getting braids until the wedding but for now I have to keep my hair in a bun.

may aswell do the bun thing. i'm not familiar with the sock one though?

just clip your pony under with a bobby pin and go!

I love weaves! My hair in my sig is a sew in that lasted me about 3 months (I could have went longer). I washed it like it was mine and had it tighten every month. No problems out of my real hair when I took the weave out. Getting a good weave really depends on the hair. The hair I had was about 70 bucks a pack. So if money is tight, stick with something affordable that you can do yourself. But always do what you think looks best on you. I also like buns! lol

Very true sista-friend. Your weave does look good in your siggy. Is it a full head? Did you do it yourself? I am seriously thinking about getting one (tracks) for a wedding that I I am in but that's not until mid-November.

Thank you! It's a full sew in with my edges left out. I used Remy Velvet hair "14. I soaked the tracks only, in conditioner before I had the sew in done. I wish my homemade sew ins where that good! lol No, I had it done by a stylist that is very very good but I grew tired of sitting in a shop for 8 hours! lol The sew in in my siggy was about 2 or 3 months old. I love sew ins but being a broke student and single mother does not leave much money for $150 hairdos and I will not get a quick weave. That glue is the devil! lol
