4A. The small spiral to pen sized spirals is what makes up my hair, I'm about 80% 4A.

If it looks like that then it's 3C :yep:

I voted 4a. I have straw size curls and I'm 4a/3c. My nape and perimeter is 3c and the curls are bigger than straw size.

I voted 4b but I guess I was thinking coffee stirrer :perplexed. I'm no way 4A coz WNGs do not work for me. But my hair is definitely made of spiral curls that look like pen springs...and they are small enough to encircle/hug a coffee stirrer--which BTW I use as a straw when drinking the coffee I get from 7-11 (hence the confusion: stirrer, straw...same difference :look:  ). So yes, bigger spirals the size of straws are 4A. But those the size coffee stirrers are 4B IMO.

More images of my 4B hair -- like y'all aren't tired of them :lachen:

<---straight out of a braid like this one.

^^^My hair if I go to bed w/o braiding it. Just baggied and called it a day and had to deal with that tangled-up mess the following day.

Below, my hair when I wash and then let it drip dry w/o combing it (WNG?) No products:

yes id say the majority of my hair is straw sized and i consider myeslf 4a

I say 3c.

When I think of 4a I don't think straw sized curls. I think of pensprings and coffee stirrers. TINY curls. Which is plainly obvious that I have looking at my pics. Even texlaxed, there isn't much straw sized curls, just in the nape.

I don't know of anyone who has ONLY straw sized curls and claims to be 100% 4a.

I have some coils like the pics above in the back of my head and interspersed throughout my head, it's straw sized, and I claim 4a. It's easier for me because all of this is too confusing. I see what you're saying though because I see alot of people with similar hair pattern claiming 3c/4a.

I have a little 3c interspersed in my nape, but I wouldn't call myself 3c either. MOST of my hair falls into the 4a category though. I'm talking over 90%.

Lots of people have different textures :yep: Sometimes just a little like me, but I've also seen some pretty stark differences on the same head.

Ok this thread totally threw me off :nono: I thought 3c was straw size? And 4a was coffee stirrer size? When I think of a coffee stirrer, I think of a straw that is about .2-.3 mm in diameter. When I think of an actual straw, I think 1mm in diameter. That is a huge difference. So what is 4a??

I still find the whole hair typing thing confusing especially when trying to get at the circumference of these curls. For me knowing that I had fine hair was more important than the type. However, I still say in terms of afro hair the types are curly, wavy, curly-wavy, spongy (wiry/dense), spongy (wiry)-curly, spongy (wiry)-wavy, cotton (cloud), tight-coils (not curls).

Best,
Almond Eyes
