Here's a little information I found about one of the ingredients in surge. It's supposedly acts as a growth factor.

Here's a direct quote (mind you it's 27 years old ):
"Research studies also suggests that Muccopolysaccharides are used in burn treatments, they
are responsible for wound-healing activities because they act as a growth factor. This growth
factor contributes to wound-healing by stimulating fibroblasts (connective-tissue cells) to produce
more collagen, which in turn increases the remodeling of the wound and fills in the wound area.
Acting synergistically, Muccopolysaccharides keeps the wound moist and at the same time allow
oxygen to penetrate the wound, adding to the regeneration. -- Drugs & Cosmetics Journal (June 1977)"

Another important connection:
It appears that Muccopolysaccharides is a type of sulfur. This is according to my interpretation of this paragraph. If that's the case, then Sulfur-8 should be comparable to Surge.
"Sulphur- Muccopolysaccharides, an essential part of connective tissue- strength and elasticity- important for body structure, intracellular ground substance, cell coat; detoxifying compounds."

Thanks for the interesting info

Hey good info. Thanks for sharing, but I don't understand how Muccopolysaccharides are a form of sulfur. I know that Polysaccharide means multiple sugars. Could you clarify possibly?

If you look up mucopolysaccharide on Encyclopedia.com you can get a more technical description.
I did a little Googling, and from what I understand, mucopolysaccharides are a class of polysaccharides, but there are also different types of mucopoly's. A lot of them contain sulphur, such as Chondroitin Sulfate and Glucosamine Sulfate. A lot of these are used in the same way as MSM (many of the search results were pages about joints and cartilage and arthritis and stuff). Also, when I searched for mucopoly's in conjunction with "hair products," most of the results were for things like Nioxin and the like, products that help thin or balding hair. So I guess it makes sense that something like SURGE, which is supposed to promote hair growth would include it. Oh, and another name for mucopoly's is glycosaminoglycans (GAG's)--in case you want to do a little Googling of your own it might help to try both names.

OT:
While searching for mucopolysaccharides in hair products, the second most common types of products I saw were all-natural products (apparently mucopoly's are good to put in conditioners and stuff). I came across this website. Scroll down and look at the ingredients to the conditioners. $19 is a lot for 8. oz, but seriously,

Sassygirl I was looking at those pet products too! Those do look nice! And that super detangler for dogs....they even make a note in the description that it's safe for human "crossover"

sassygirl, i've had my eye on that avocado mist for over a year. i already have their protein treatment. i love it. it's so interesting to me that alot of our products contain the same ingredients as horse products. to get the shine that show horses get would be awesome!!

so it's sulfur again, huh?
good to know!

(makes a mental note to increase sulfur intake on everything)

I wanna try the Eqyss, but I just can't bring myself to put pet products in my hair.

That would be the last straw for my family. They would probably have me committed!

Another reason is the stuff ain't cheap! A 16 oz bottle lasts my cat almost a year. If I started using it it might last 2 months...

This thread got so funny. I have to admit that I thought about purchasing a dog conditioner but I came to my senses...for now atleast. I'm considering putting some MSM in my water mist bottle and see what i can do with that.

My curiousity got the best of me and a tried the cat detangler today.

It feels about the same as any other leave-in spray. It's very moisturizing and my hair didn't dry hard like with most sprays. It has a slippery feel kinda like watered down S-curl... And it smells good, too. But at $12 for 16 oz I can't afford to use it all over my head several times a week.

I get mine from a pet supply store. But I've seen it at kvvetsupply.com, too.

I found this interesting also, look at the percentages:

We performed clinical trials to evaluate the therapeutic effects of Foltene in patients of the several types of hair fallings. Thirtypatients with male pattern baldness, alopecia areata and seborrheic alopecia were included in this study. Foltene was appliedevery other day for 40 days, and followed by maintenance therapy of twice application a week. The duration of whole therapywas 6 months. We conclude that Foltene is an effective and agent for male pattern baldness, alopecia areata and seborrheicalopecia from the following results. Ten patients with male pattern baldness was treated with Foltene for 6 months. Foltene hadtherapeutic effects of 50% in hair regrowth, 70% in decreased hair falls, 30% in decreased dandruff, 50% in decreasedseborrhea. Thirteen patients with alopecia areata was treated with Foltene for 6 months. Foltene had therapeutic effects of61.6% in hair regrowth, 53.9% in decreased in hair falls, 53.9% in decreased dandruff, 77.0% in decreased seborrhea. Sevenpatients with seborrheic alopecia was treatment with Foltene for 6 months. Foltene had therapeutic effects of 85.8% in hairregrowth, 57.2% in decreased hair falls, 42.9% in decreased dandruff, 85.8% in decreased seborrhea. The degree oftherapeutic success was related to the duration of therapy. The side effects were as followed: itching sensation developed in 2patients (6.7%); tingling sensation in 3 patients (10.0%); burning sensation in 1 patient (3.3%); erythema in 3 patients (10.0%).

Thanks BC, that was a worthwhile read. Now, I know I have to get outta here and find some surge. We called the distributors to see where they supply surge in our city, but they only had one place on record. When I called them, they had another 14 in 1, but it wasn't Surge. I guess I'll have to go ahead and order it online or have Walgreens order it so I won't have to pay the p & h.

One nice thing though, the male I talked to at the distribution office said he'd send it to me if I needed him too, and he gave me his name. I thought that was nice of him.

All you who have access to Surge, stock up!

Adrienne, like you, I've been eyeing the Avocado Mist also. I already have the protein conditioner and it is great for strengthening the hair. That's it, I'm gonna order it today.

BTW, great thread yall. Very useful info. Thanks for posting.

Egyss makes products for humans as well. Shampoos, conditioners etc. Not just for animals now. I have used the Mega Tek Cell Rebuilder many times. Has a coconut scent. Have you checked out the Eqyss site. Hope this helps Bonjour

I thought mucopolys and aloe vera were related. I think I need to go googling again...
