I am soooooo upset and confused right now:wallbash::wallbash:. Before I joined LHC I totally neglected my hair. I wash whenever I felt like it, never protected my ends and never ever moisturized. But now that I am trying to take care of my hair, its breaking like none other. It's limp and lifeless. I am considering cutting and starting over.

What have you done that could have damaged it?

Even the best of us suffer setbacks! You may not need to cut all of it off..

STOP AND PUT THE SCISSORS DOWN. Now take a deep breath......What have you done to you hair? Have you tried a protein treatment like Aphogee to stop the breaking? Have you done deep conditioning treatments? Your hair wasn't destroyed overnight. Therefore, it will not be fixed over night. BE PATIENT.

I am relaxed, touched up on June 1st. I have used Aphogee 2 min treatment twice since then. I dont know what happened but my sink, shirt and floor are covered everyday. I don't really fuss with my hair much, mainly out of fear that I will get hair everywhere.

When she says Aphogee, she's talking about the hard core 2-step treatment. Try that. But, you have to do a hard core moisturizing treatment afterwards. Just skip the Aphogee moisturizing conditioner--it's garbage! Use something better than that. I use Nexxus Humectress. A lot of people use Keracare.

If you didn't have a problem before your last touchup you may be over processed...

I'd do the heavy duty aphogee treatment.

I personally use the balancing moisturizer after the treatment. I apply it and let it sit for 5 minutes, then rinse and deep condition the heck out of my hair.

Get some protein in your hair, and keep it moisturized and deep conditioned and don't manipulate it too much and just see if it improves in a month before you decide on cutting any.

:bighug:So sorry. Can you give us your reg so we know a bit more? What moisturizer do you use? How often do you wash? How often do you use heat? how do you style? Products?

Thanks for the responses, Ladies!!! I moisturize with ORS Olive Oil. I wash 1x a week with NTM. I bun during the week and on the weekends my hair is up in a clip/claw. I have not use heat in about 5 weeks. I'm kind of lazy so I really don't do too much but if I need to step it up I will.

Do you dampen your hair sometimes before you use the moisturizer?

Do you use any oils to seal in moisture?

But what kind of deep conditioner are you using? How many times a week do you deep condition?

How often do you deep condition? What do you use? How long do you deep condition? Is your hair just snapping?

I would NOT advise doing the 2 step(hardcore) aphogee just yet since you've used the reconstructor twice since June 1 and there is nothing in your regimen that indicates that you've been deep conditioning. You could be doing more harm than good by going that route ESPECIALLY if you haven't been deep conditioning and your hair may be in dire need of moisture.

I would classify the 2 step as a mild protein, it's not a powerful reconstructor.

I would like to know about your conditioning habits too Shana! I assumed that since you used the 2 min conditoner, you DO deep condition with other moisturizing conditioners?

This is how I stopped my hair form breaking and brought it back to health after overprocessing:

Henna (no color) for about 1/2 hour under heating cap
Then used Kera Kare Recon added Shea butter to ends sat under heating cap about 20 min
Then DC with Mendex cond.
My breakage stopped dramatically. Been doing this for a month now and hair is slowly coming back to life:yep:

My hair was seriously damaged by the time I found LHCF. Basically every strand I had preLHCF broke off or looked so bad I cut it. It happens. Try to not be discouraged. You're doing the right thing and you'll get to your goals.

Everyone has made very valid suggestions, but id like to mention that you may THINK that your hair is breaking more just because you are now more AWARE of and care more about your hair.

Take a deep breath...stick with what works for you, toss anything that may be hindering your progress (read: an awful comb that snags your hair everytime you use it, rubber bands, etc). Health and growth will come with patience and dedication. we are here for you girlie :yep:

Are you referring to Aphogee for Damaged hair(now identified as the 2 step protein treatment)? The liquid treatment that you have harden with heat and can only be used every 6-8 weeks? Because that treatment is far from mild. It is actually considered a hardcore, heavy protein.

The Keratin 2 min reconstructor (the creamy treatment) is mild/moderate imo.

I meant the 2 min is mild :yep:

The 2 step is what I recommended.

I've used both of the products, and I'm very familiar with them, I just typoed :)

I don't believe that she would overload her hair with protein because she used a mild protein conditioner prior to the 2 step.

I agree with this; you are now very conscious of every strand of your hair so any loss makes you feel things are worse than before. you are on the way to healthy hair, stick with it...moisture, and then some more moisture.. overdoing moisture or protein is not good but better too much moisture than too much protein.

Sorry for not responding, I stepped out for dinner. I deep condition with CON Nourishing Cond and olive oil for an hour, then rinse it out in the shower. I do believe that since I'm paying attention, I notice the breakage more. Should I purchase and use the 2-step Aphogee treatment???

I would :yep:

I use it every 5-6 weeks.

I'd only use it right now this minute if you're truly experiencing A LOT of breakage even after your hair has been dc'd and moisurized.

If your hair IS breaking because of dryness, then protein isn't the way to go.

From your description I'm not sure what a reason for your breakage would be. Your regimen doesn't sound too bad, it doesn't seem like your hair would be dry to the point of breakage.

The only thing I have to go on is that it started breaking after your last relaxer... which usually means overprocessed/overlapped.

You haven't figured out a reason?

I maybe overprocessed b/c I tried to use a relaxer brush but it was a disaster. I will p/u some tomorrow and test it out. Thanks for the advice!!!!!

Let's talk about your deep conditioner. CON isn't a deep conditioner (someone correct me if I am wrong). I would sit under the dryer for at least 30 mins. Also, you may need to leave the DC on overnight. You also may need to DC 2xs a week (at least till you get the moisture back).

So what's the difference between regular conditioners and DEEP conditioners? If you read the directions usually DCs say leave on for 5 or more minutes. Here's some information that another poster (Aggie) that may be helpful.

Deep Conditioning is conditioning your hair for an extended period of time with or without heat to moisturize on a deeper level than wash out conditioners. This type of conditioner is thicker than regular wash-out conditioners, they help to strengthen the hair and provide needed elasticity in the hair strands. They also combat excessive dryness and makes the hair supple and flexible. It is a very good recovery procedure for hair that is suffering from protein overload.

There are many conditioners that can be used and among them are Mizani moisturefuse, Kenra moisturizing conditioner, Elucence moisturizing conditioner, Pantene R/N hair conditioning mask, Nexxus Humectress, Nexxus Humectin, Keracare Humecto, Biolage Conditioning Balm, Elasta QP DPR-11....

Check out this thread below for additional examples of deep conditioners.
