Since I decided against getting braids or a weave because of the potential damage, I decided to wear an instant weave that I had gotten for free at a hair convention that me and ajamericandiva (what’s up girl) went to. It took me over a year to get the courage to wear it, but I did and it looks GREAT! The layers frame my face, and it really suits me. Its actually the same length as my real hair. (My mom didn't even notice that i had it on yesterday)

My male coworkers all complimented me SEVERAL times, and my boyfriend (WHO HATES FAKE HAIR) actually likes it. It’s a great protective style, because I am not combing my hair except for before a wash.

Here is the problem. One of my coworkers (male) asked me if that was a wig,and EVERYONE in my office started laughing. He then tries to say because "it looks so perfect". Anyway, One of my other male coworkers was singing “wiggidy wiggidy wack” this morning and I didn’t get it until after that comment. So that means they were discussing my hair all morning. I know they will try to touch it..(and I will have a FIT ) and I know that they will keep poking fun b/c these guys are seriously immature.. One time the same coworker tried to pull my fonytail!! So I am honestly ready to stop wearing it. What would ya’ll do?

Call HR. Not sure of the environment you work in, but no one should be making you feel uncomfortable.

Why do people have to be SO immature?

If all of the comments were seriously bothering me to the point where I didn't feel secure, then I would probably stop wearing it.

If I felt strong enough that I didn't care what they said as long as I knew that I was looking good, then I would continue to wear it no matter what they said!

True...since this IS a form of harrassment.

Carrie is right I would call HR. It's their job to keep the work enviroment comfortable for everyone. Since the guys are immature then you can't go to them and ask them to stop.

I wish i had an HR department, but we are a small office. Its only about 11 of us, not only that I am the only female employee...So often times they view me as being "Sensitive". I really need to find a new job b/c they get carried away alot of the time. Anyhow, The manager is buddy buddy with the guy who said it, so if i do report it to him I won't be getting anywhere.

I would not continue to work around people like that. Obviously they have no class. I would say IMO that it's time to move on. You don't need to be in that type of environment. Look for something a step above and let the "little people" stay where they are. I say this because that's IMO what they are if they can't find anything more constructive to do than focus on if you hair being a wig or whatever. You should not have to worry about people making any attempt to pull your hair.
There's my two cents!

You are sooo right..if i told ya'll half of the stuff that goes on in this office, every last one of ya'll would kick my butt for even staying at this piece of $@&$^ job. I am talking all types of disrespect. But everyone "sees each other as friends" and not coworkers..so they let it pass...Thank for motivating me to get on the ball and get the Heck outta here!

If there's no HR to go to, then there's no HR to fire you for telling them where to go and how to get there.

I agree w/this and with Model Chick. I would totally deflate their harrassment and teasing by owning up to my wig/weave. "Yes, I AM wearing a wig b/c I like to wear my hair in many different styles. What's it to you?"

What I've noticed about people that like to tease others is that they want attention and making you feel bad in the process is just the icing on the cake to them. Don't let them see you sweat! I would NOT stop wearing my new "hair" just because of their immaturity. That gives them WAY too much power over you. Wear it and own it. And make sure you give them a firm warning that if anyone touches you inappropriately, you will file a harrassment suit and that YOU'RE DEAD SERIOUS!

Hmph! These ni%%az!

I am used to being the only female, so I know what you're going through. I don't know if would help, but the next time an out of line comment is made, I'd get the culprit right in front of everyone and ask him if knows anything about makeup. He'll probably look at you like you're crazy, but then tell him that he seems to have a lot of knowledge with wigs and hair weaves, you just assumed that he was gay and you wanted some makeup tips.

It worked for me...hope it works for you.

foxy,
this is one of the reasons it took me a long time to wear my instantweave too! I was afraid it was screaming "WIG" bc it does look so perfect...maybe I need to rough it up a little so it looks more natural...hahaha. But when Ive worn it Ive found Im mainly just paranoid bc people just think its my hair and I got it done...as a matter of fact I cut mine into more of a shoulder length bob to look more natural and my sister asked me if I got my hair cut. And the other couple of times nefore I cut the hair, my sister AND a friend had no idea I was wearing it bc it looked like my hair had been flat ironed. Both said it looks very natural. I thought the thickness gives it away because although the length is about the same, its much thicker than my hair.

Anyway, I agree with someone above who said own up to it and tell them to mind their own business. I mean its not like u are bald, obviously they have seen u have plenty of hair on your head, so its your perrogative(sp?) if u want to wear a wig or weave.

By the way, which style are u wearing, and what products and technique are u using to blend in the hair in the front? do u flat iron the fron to match?

Im really starting to like mine, and it looks better than a bun for sure! Im thinking about getting a curly one too, but Im worried about blending the textures.

Foxybronx, if the look works and you're protecting your hair I would keep wearing it. You're either going to have to put these BOYS in their place or ignore them. Redundant jokes get old after awhile. Pretty soon they will move onto talking about something or somebody else. I would also question your male coworker -- in front of others
smile.gif
-- why he is into your hair so much. Does he want some of his own to play with? Ask him to come to the BSS with you next time then. LOL. That will keep him quiet.

I like this idea!

I have seen too many idiots that like to play the "Is it a weave?" game. Thank goodness stupidity isn't contagious. I can't come up with anything good to say...but good luck with however you decide to handle it!

Dolce, that would have been PERFECT to say i wish i thought on my feet. They will be warned tomorrow..Touch my weave and there will be problems!

Thanks for your advice.

Leslie,
I feel ya. I cut mine too..It had layers but i made it a tiny bit shorter, so that layers closer to how my real hair looks. I wear Teri from outre hair..I only have my real bang and enough hair out to cover the combs. I do use a flat iron or i roll it with a magnetic roller to smooth it out a bit..but it never really matches. I want a curly one to, but since it won't match I will get flat twist in the front to cover the combs.
Thanks for your advice L!

Exactly...ask them if they are going to donate to your 'hair fund'....and remind them that they all do not give u money to get your hair done, so until then keep your comments to yourself
