How often do you get your roots touched up and why do you choose this timeframe? And have you noticed any damaging affects from doing otherwise?

I currently space mine about about 7-8 months for fear of damage since I have relaxed hair as well, but I was curious to see what timeframes others used.

And one more thing. Does your natural haircolor lift without the help of a booster? I was told that mine has to have a booster in order to lift, while some people don't. Does anyone know what this means.

Thanks,
Karonica

Hi,

I touch up my color about every 10-12 weeks, because I have a light color and I dont like how the dark roots look.

I haven't noticed any damage with doing that. My hair has been doing really well. I do it myself and I use Textures & Tones, which doesn't have ammonia.

It sounds like you get yours done professionally, if you're using a booster. I wouldn't touch it up too often using that; I think that can be pretty drying.

I really would like to try the Textures and Tones, but I have no idea how my hair will turn out and I love the haircolor I have now, and even if I get one in a similar color, I don't know if my haircolor will actually "lift." But thanks for your reply.

I am definitely going to try and learn more about Textures and Tones, because a lot of ladies have success with it.

I just do a permanent color every few years. I just let the color grow out when I get bored with my black hair I then die it again.

Karonica, What did you use to get that color??? You're right, that would probably be a hard color to match exactly.

Since you say you wait 7-8 mos. to touchup, what do you do about the dark roots?? You don't mind them?

I let the dark roots grow out in between that time. It looks nice either way, but I was kinda tempted to dye my hair twice to three times yearly, but I'm afraid of the consequences.

I purchase two small bottles of Clairol's Sunset Brown, and the hairdresser mixes the stuff and does her thing. I went to one hairdresser who applied the color to my hair, but didn't use a booster, so my hair didn't do too much lightening. She said that my hair had to have a booster in order to lighten, and that everybody's doesn't.
