hi

when i put water on my hair, when i take my twists outs the next day, my hair just poofs together and looks like a shruken fro?

how can i get defined twistouts with out water?

i can't dry my hair as i have no dryer.

How can i moisturize my hair while reducing shrinkage.

yes

i used water, ors twist gel and komaza califa cream

i did the mistake of putting too much gel in one day

hair was just poofy lol

this is my "supposed" twist out for today

I look crazy :nono:

thanks for the pic and product list. It gives us a better framework to work with.

Chiiiiile, you got fine strands. Mine looks exactly like that when I do 'box style' twist outs. A hot hot mess :lachen:

Try a flat twist out. For us with the fine straggly strands it gives better definition. Also use a heavy heavy butter like shea. If you're a grease user use that instead (it gives hold for DAYS). Gels and creams are kind of a joke with our hair type. Took me six months to figure that out

Also, I do mine on half dry to fully dry hair. Soaking wet and it's too straight looking. You'll have to experiment with moisture levels for the optimum look you're going for.

ok thanks!

I already cornrow it to get the little definition i do have :(

Do you whip it yourself?

I do my own mixed with cocoa butter to make it denser. Too much air and it's a joke and still comes out crazy. It's just not thick enough. I keep it 'grease thick'. Sometimes, I'll just dig straight into the container and melt in in my fingers, and apply it to my hair while it's soaking wet. Then let it air dry to where I now know it's at its best for flat twisting. No other product. THen just twist.

DarkJoy I totally agree. I may be able to wear a twist out for a few hours.

I found that the product can't have any glycerin whatsoever as well.

daae, I don't twist on wet hair. It has to be slightly damp, maybe about 75% dry. Otherwise it will immediately poof just like yours. I sometimes twist with grease and it comes out decent but won't last the entire day entirely defined. It will poof just a bit.

Oh and my hair does not come out greasy if I do it before bed. It's all soaked in the strands by the morning and has a nice shine and little curls :)

riiiiigh Froreal3. I find it lose some definition after a few hours but it stays at a certain level for like 3 days (if it doesnt revert from moisture in the air). But I have low density so enjoy a slight poof for fullness.

Try twisting the strands slightly as you twist to help get a little more definition.

^^ I also do what @Nap suggested. It helps with definition, but I still get some swelling/poof. :ohwell:

ETA: daae, any regular ol' grease. I use some that has no petrolatum...don't need that in my hair. After moisturizing with a leave in, I add a little to heavy seal my ends. I twist with it to add some weight and shine to my hair since it is so poofalicious. :spinning:

I don't twist, i cornrow but i'll try it.

daae. I think she means for regular twists not flat twists. For two strand twists try twisting the strands first while you are twisting them around each other and that helps give more definition. You've gotten some good advice. I have fine strands and the ORS worked well for me. I tend to do twistouts on damp or dry hair though. I haven't perfected it yet but it's very much so wearable lol. The Pink Stuff from Hairitage Hydration gives some slight weight to my hair for twists. Hydroquench's Puttyful is another good "gel" like product that works but it's a soft hold. Also I find with my twistouts I generally have to retwist at night to keep them looking good to my liking and it helps stretch the hair as well. I don't apply extra products, I just retwist at night.

Don't judge...Sent from my Galaxy Note II using LHCF

My dd's hair is the same way. I gave up on twist outs and do braid and curls instead it comes out so much better for her. I also do what another poster said and not use a holding product but instead use a heavy butter or even products with a high wax content if I have it.

I’m natural, 4CZ, very fine with medium density hair.

My flat twist routine on WET hair:

Myhoneychild.com – Type 4 hair cream
Seal with Argan oil (I’m only using this to use it up.) You can seal with any oil but make sure it’s a light coating.

Flat Twist with any of the following gels:
Ouidad.com – Climate Control heat and humidity gel (the best so far no matter the time of the year.)
unclefunkysdaughter.com – Curly magic (best during cooler months – Fall, Winter, Spring – I’m in Florida)

Style lasts 3 days. By the 3rd day my hair is poofier but the definition is still there.

What I find works for me is a heavy leave-in, seal with oil and use gel. Hair milk as a leave-in does not work for me (not enough moisture.) And not all gels have enough hold.

Other leave-ins that work for my type hair:

Myhoneychild.com – Honey hair cream
Mariedeanonline. – Apricot Mango leave-in conditioner
Karenbodybeautiful.com – Creamylicious

I’ve also had success with these holding products:
Curlprep.com – Sweet buttah
Entwinecouture.com – Jelle
Curljunkie.com – Pattern Pusha
These only give me one, sometimes 2-day hair if there’s low humidity.

I’ve tried a myriad of leave-in and styling products to find the combination that works for my hair. But one thing that is a constant, I must use a heavy leave-in to get any definition out of the gel.

And to combat build-up, I clarify my hair once a week with bentonite or rhassoul clay. I never have a waxy feeling and my DC always works.

@Pompous Blue

What is bentonite clay, how can you wash hair with it?

Thank you for the post:yep:
daae You're welcome.

Magical Clay..Bentonite Clay Hair Mask Treatment (updated)
http://allthingsonatural.blogspot.com/2012/06/bentonite-clay-hair-mask-treatment.html

Combine Bentonite Clay and equal parts Apple Cider Vinegar and Aloe Vera Juice (optional) and mix to the consistency of cake batter.
Apply mixture to damp unclean hair.
Allow mixture to sit on the hair for 15 – 20 minutes not allowing to dry on the hair.
Rinse mixture with lukewarm to cool water until all clay is rinsed from the hair.
Follow up with a deep conditioner.

I also use this recipe:
http://allthingsonatural.blogspot.com/2011/07/so-whats-rave-about-marshmallow-root.html

Marshmallow Root Clarifying Treatment: 1/2 Cup Bentonite Clay Powder, 2 TBSP Marshmallow Root Powder, 1/4 Cup Aloe Vera Gel/Juice, 1/4 cup Apple Cider Vinegar. Prep: Mix ingredients into a cake batter consistency and apply to damp hair. Leave on for 15-20 minutes and do not allow to dry. Rinse with lukewarm to cool water.

I mostly use the 2nd recipe and sometimes substitute rhassoul clay for the bentonite clay. I purchase my clays online 'cause no one sells it locally. I've read on here that Whole Foods sells it (I think it's called Indian healing clay.)
