I got curious and wen ton Copilot to figure out the best way to improve my hair regimen.

First I asked, I stated my regimen and asked if my regimen is good and why? Please note that I also mention that I have African American Hair, the type of straightener used and that I have Fine hair.

Second, I asked how I can improve it. Well, It recommended hair serums.

Third, I mentioned shampoos and conditioners that I love. I asked if it would benefit me to add the items to my regimen and if so how to incorporate.

Finally, I asked how I can incorporate Red light therapy for hair growth, and when to use serum ( before or after). I got brands etc.

Ladies give it a try.

Here is what I learned through my back and forth...

K18 VS OLAPLEX

Both K18 and Olaplex are excellent treatments for repairing damaged hair, but they work in slightly different ways and have unique benefits. Here’s a comparison to help you decide which might be better for your hair:

K18

  • How It Works: K18 uses a patented peptide technology called K18PEPTIDE (sh-Oligopeptide-78) that mimics the molecular makeup of keratin chains. It repairs and strengthens hair from the inside out by restoring keratin chains and disulfide bonds1.
  • Application: K18 is a post-shampoo treatment. You apply it to clean, damp hair and leave it on for at least 4 minutes1.
  • Benefits: It improves hair strength, elasticity, and overall health. It’s particularly effective for hair damaged by heat, coloring, and chemical treatments1.
  • Price: K18 is generally more expensive, with a 1.7 oz bottle costing around $75.

Olaplex

  • How It Works: Olaplex uses a patented ingredient called Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate, which works by repairing disulfide bonds in the hair. This helps to restore the hair’s strength and elasticity1.
  • Application: Olaplex No.3 Hair Perfector is a pre-shampoo treatment. You apply it to dry hair before shampooing and leave it on for at least 10 minutes before rinsing1.
  • Benefits: It’s effective for all hair types and is particularly beneficial for curly hair, which has more hair bonds. It helps to reduce breakage and improve the overall health of the hair1.
  • Price: Olaplex is more affordable, with a 3.3 oz bottle costing around $30.

Which is Best for Relaxed and Thermically Straightened Hair?

For relaxed and thermally straightened hair, both K18 and Olaplex can be highly beneficial, but their effectiveness may depend on your specific needs:
  • K18: If your hair is severely damaged from chemical treatments and heat styling, K18 might be the better choice due to its deep and long-lasting repair capabilities. Its ability to integrate into the hair structure and provide ongoing benefits can be particularly valuable for maintaining the health of chemically treated hair.
  • Olaplex: If you’re looking for a regular maintenance treatment that can protect your hair during coloring processes and improve overall hair health, Olaplex is a great option. It’s effective for all hair types and can be used as a weekly treatment to prevent breakage and maintain strength.
Ultimately, both treatments offer unique benefits, and you can even consider alternating between them to maximize the health and strength of your hair.

PART 2

Yes, using Olaplex No.0 and No.3 on the weeks that you’re not using K18 can be a great way to ensure continuous hair repair and maintenance. Here’s how you can incorporate them into your routine:

Alternating K18 and Olaplex Regimen

Week 1: K18 Treatment

  • Post-Shampoo: Apply K18 to clean, damp hair. Leave it on for at least 4 minutes, then style as usual.

Week 2: Olaplex No.0 and No.3

  1. Apply Olaplex No.0: This is an intensive bond-building treatment that primes your hair for the No.3 treatment. Apply No.0 to dry hair, saturating your hair from root to tip.
  2. Leave It On: Let it sit for 10 minutes. Do not rinse it out.
  3. Apply Olaplex No.3: Apply No.3 directly on top of No.0. Comb through your hair to ensure even distribution.
  4. Leave It On: Leave the mixture on for at least 10 minutes (longer for more intensive repair).
  5. Rinse and Wash: Rinse out the treatment, then follow with your regular shampoo and conditioner routine.

Key Points to Remember

  • Consistency: Alternate between K18 and Olaplex treatments weekly for the best results.
  • Application: Follow the specific instructions for each product to maximize their benefits.
  • Monitor Progress: Keep an eye on how your hair responds to the treatments and adjust the frequency if needed.
By alternating between K18 and Olaplex, you can provide your hair with continuous, effective repair and maintenance, ensuring it stays healthy, strong, and beautiful.
