I was just wondering because I find my front edges are always really short and they stay that way. I would think that they would grow to be as long as the rest of my hair but n__ope my edges are only a quarter of an inch long. I have seen other women with this problem. Does anybody know why this happens and how to prevent it. Thanks

Hi,

So many thing could be the culptit but i feel that tension around the edges and chemicals are high on the list.

Do you wear ponytails or other styles where you pull your hair one direction? You can try cutting back on those styles until your hair gets longer. Some women also change where their ponytail/bun/etc is (high one day, low another day, in the middle, etc) so the tension isn't always the same.

How do you wear your hair?

I have this problem too and I rarely wear my hair up or slick it back. It's always around my ears and not much longer my whole life.

I always assumed because I sleep on my sides... but IDK anymore as I keep my hair protected with satin at night

It could be anything from wearing headbands too often to tyin your satin scarf in the same spot every night. Or maybe you apply your relaxer to your edge or front first so it processes longer and cause breakage. The reasons differ based on individual regimens and habits....I am currently having some thinning on my right edges because i sleep on my right side every night :perplexed

Well I don't relax or wear ponytails. It's hard to explain but it seems as though that area of my hair never grows. I've had this problem long before I knew anything about satin pillowcases or bonnets. Even when my hair fell out I thought it would grow back since it was a fresh start. I'm starting to wear headbands again but I use the scunci brand with the rubber tips that are supposed to be gentler on your hair than the plastic ones. The only time I think I saw progress there was when I was braiding up my front edges at night. I don't know how much better that was for my retention but I thought I noticed growth there. I just don't understand what I could be doing wrong to that area. I don't even comb or brush that area anymore.
