Serena:
Your hair IS gorgeous. Please tell me more on your use of s-curl activator. My stylist told me that the satin scrunchy I was using had broken my hair off all the way around my head so I haven't been doing the phonytail much lately. I'd like some help with more protective sytles. Any suggestions? How does the s-curl work for you, does it make your hair stronger too?
i would say wearing protective styles such as braids, cornrows, and twist. also weekly deep conditioning (when not in braids), infusium 23 leave-in treatment(usage twice a week), moisture from using s-curl, braid spray(african royale),and distilled water. most of all i can say keeping heat off it. i haven't curled or flat-ironed my hair in awhile because i've been mainly wearing braids. oh! i can't leave out my vitamins
protective styles, learning that less is more when dealing with product, trimming less often, moisture, less heat, super wide tooth comb, my satin scarf, scalp manipulations, and lots of water.
I don't have a set schedule for trimming my ends; I trim only when I think it's absolutely necessary. I did a TEENY tiny one (nothing significant) last weekend, though; I sectioned my hair as if I was going to make several braids, then took about 1/4 inch or so off the ends. I need a bigger trim to even things up, but I'm afraid it will have to wait!
The s-curl activator works marvellously for me in moisturising my hair and stopping my breakage dead in its tracks. Does it make my hair stronger? Absolutely. I apply it liberally throughout, paying particular attention to my ends, then I put my hair up in a bun, or lately, in a claw clip. Sometimes I put my hair in a banana clip, loosely twist the hair, fold it around the clip, and secure it with a hair pin or hair slide.
Supergirl:
I really like the claw clip a lot, too. Let me try to explain how I do it: I start twisting my hair at the back of the head, as if I was about to make a very low bun/chignon. Instead of twisting the hair completely around in a circle, however, I fold the ends under, doubling the length of hair back on itself, so to speak. Then I secure the clip over the folded hair. Mmmmmm...did I make any sense?
Keeping my hair and ends moisturized a lot has helped stop breakage. I also think washing it once a week is helping with the growth of my hair. I guess I will see if it has helped in a week when I get my relaxer.

I would just say leaving it alone + vitamins

Hello Mufasa
Great minds think alike
. I'd also like to add eating plenty of fruit, vegetables, protein, and loading up on the water. Oh, and spacing out touch ups, and leaving the scissors and combs alone. Oh one more thing, moisturizing the heck out of the ends and condition rinses/washes.
I was told by my stylist that spacing out touch ups is what's contributing to my breakage. I used to go 3-4 mos. Now every two mos. How long do most of you wait?
less everything esp less heat, less shampooin, (now use no poo) less combing and brushing, less manipulation really so i'm braidin my hair to keep my hands off my hair and jus let it do its thing!! Hope to have gained 1.5 inch by the time i take these braids out.
now serena, serena all that gorgous hair and u never started a thread to show it off!! really u shud have to have us awwww and coo over it!!
pliz post yo regiment girl coz u got us all curios
For you all that do frequent condition washes, how do you prevent breakage when combing wet hair, I've been asking this all week, I lose so much hair when its wet even though I use a wide tooth comb and I'm very gentle. I'm thinking of stoppin CO washes altogether...

What type of conditioner are you using? Do you need to clarify? Are you using distilled water? Do you wash in the shower with your hair back? I really don't know what the problem could be without more detail. I condition wash or rinse daily and it has helped me and I have very little breakage. In fact it allayed my breakage. Please tell us more.
