What is or should be the length of your edges?

I am trying to grow my edges in and in addition to filling them in I am wondering how long they should be. Knowing will help me determine if my edges are breaking off at some point and other diagnoses (i guess). so that's why I'm asking

I know everyone is different but I'm wondering what the range is.

The "baby hairs" are usually short, which is usually less than a 1/4 of 1/4 inch of your hairline (unless you are Chilli from TLC). The rest of your hair should be the same length. All my life I thought the kitchen (nape) area should be short. Once I went natural my nape area is as long as the rest of my hair.

So only the front part of the hairline should be short? about 1/4 inch in? I think I have about 1/2 inch in or more that's short in the front. :ohwell:

What did you find was breaking your nape before you were able to grow it out? I ask because I am using a silk scarf now and maybe maybe I'm tying it too hard?

my edges look just like my eyelashes. that are thick at the roots and slim at the ends at a point (weird?). they are 1/2" long!

I know this is probably a stupid question but should everyone have baby hair because I can't ever remember having it...mind you I've been relaxed since about age 5 so maybe it's been breaking off all these years?

my edges are NL/SL, and my nape is as long as the rest of my hair. my edges have only started growing since i went natural.

I thought I had excessive baby hair but from the description given I guess I am normal. LoL @ the Chili from TLC comment
My edges stay short and broken. But I abused them with tight braids for years. One of my goals is to grow them at least chin length.

ETA: My nape is good. Grows fast; and now that I cross wrap it doesn't break off like it used to.

I have baby hair type edges all around, soft hair that lays down when it get wet, but shrinks, puffs and curls\coils when it is dry.

My nape was breaking from the friggin doo-rags that I used to wrap my hair. You know the cap with the long thin ties? Dem ties are the devil.

I have short hair all around my edges, what I would call baby hair and some fine wisp that are straightish that lay against my head behind my ear leading to the nape. I didn't realize that everyone doesn't have baby hair until someone brought it to my attention saying that they wish they had them

I have wondered if it is breakage but I don't think so.
