Based on the pic in my siggy, when I should I finally straighten my hair?

I have not used any heat on my hair since the summer of 2006, and my BC was November 2006. I really want my straightened hair to WOW people, but I can't decide if I should do it at the end of May when I will be touching BSL more closely, June when I should be BSL, or in July during my birthday. Or should I just wait until November when it will be my 2 year natural anniversary?

If your hair were the length in my siggy when you finally take the plunge and straighten your hair?? (Also, keep in mind that I would need a tiny trim because I BC'd my own hair)

ETA: I am really going to do this according to the majority vote, so TIA!

I think that you should wait until your birthday. That way, you know that your hair will be BSL and it will be a bday present to yourself.

:wave:Hey GoingNatural,

You have made great progress! I vote for wiating until your birthday, but do whatever makes you happy!

HHG, Curli

I vote November, b/c straight hair and hot weather don't mesh well. You will pay all that money only to have it frizz and shrink up on you.

May is also a good choice, b/c the weather is kinda in between. :look:

Depends on the weather. In which month is your hair most likely to behave and hold the style? Depending on where you are if there is no real difference between months in whether....then go with the "me day" birthday hair.

Yeah, I don't even know how quickly my hair will revert or how it handles hot weather period. I'm hoping it at least stays straight 2 days!!

My birthday or November are probably the best options, it's just hard because all of my friends are pressuring me because they want to see my straight hair. While I'm waiting for long length, and I'm kind of scared of heat :look:. I've even contemplated waiting until I'm MBL...

I agree. But it's your hair, so do it whenever you decide.

Hi, GoingNatural! I've been trying to make a similar decision. It's been over a year since I pressed my hair, and I really want to do it to see the length, but I have decided to wait until the hot weather has passed. I think you should do so as well; that way the press will last longer. I voted for November! Happy growing, natural sis!! :)

My mother is putting the same kind of pressure on me so I will finally straighten it in December when I go home for a visit.

I voted for your birthday, but after having read the other responses, I saw November - I forgot about reversion! :lachen:

I would wait until I reached my hair goal. If your goal is BSL, I would wait until I was BSL if I were you. My goal is waist length, so I am not straightening my hair until I reach that goal.

So it's looking like either my birthday or November.

It would be a good birthday present, and then Nov is good because I don't have to worry about it reverting.

I'm also itching to see what I'll look like with straight hair again, Kind of like seeing the old me again. Because I never wore ponytails and never had curly hair in the past. Just straight hair.

Well.....

Since "Don't do it" isn't an option, I chose "other".

Wait until you feel like you can't wait any longer and then straighten. But I know that's not the answer you're looking for. I'm a scaredy cat about straightening my own hair and haven't done it since my big chop in 2005, even though I'm so curious about how it would look. So don't listen to me. Do your thing when you want to and just BE CAREFUL. Please. Your hair is so pretty.

I'm still waiting for you to straighten your hair, but as time goes by I see that less likely! I'm just so curious that I know it will happen sometime this year. I'm going to decide btwn July and November, but I may just chicken out and wait until I get MBL...

I was thinking the exact same thing :look: I tried flat ironing my hair 2 days ago and it would not take! I used 3 different flat irons, but as soon as this hair came in contact with this Memphis humidity, my hair said uh uh, no way Jose! I used a lot of heat protectant but my natural hair could not be coaxed into a straight style. I won't be trying it again anytime soon.

ditto! May or November, i'd hate for you to put in all that work/$ for humidity to ruin it in 5 minutes... :lachen:

I say go for November, only because i agree with what everyone else is saying about the heat, afterall there are other nice hairstyles you can wear on your birthday.
Your hair is beautiful, so people will be saying wow no matter what style you go for.

I vote on your birthday.

You and I are on the same path and I'm going for the wow effect as well....On thing though, how in da hell did you get to BSL from 2006 to 2008. I didn't big chop and I'm about the same length!!!!! I honestly thing these heat damaged ends are holding me back....UGH!

Make sure to take pics. I can live vicariously through you because I'm too chicken. ;)

This is true as well...I actually had another timeframe. If Obama wins, I blow dry at the end of the year, if he loses I blow dry next year on my Bday or later....lol

I never had reversion issues when I pressed my hair all year long....you never know, she might be able to pull it off.

I wish I was patient enough to wait until next year on my birthday because I would have definitely jumped on that bandwagon!

I'm leaning toward November though. Te reversion issue is kind of selling me. If I do something special for my bday maybe I'll do it in July.

I'm hoping everyone thinks it's a weave. That equals ultimate success to me!

Oh wow congrats! I would say bday because it will really be time to celebrate you, you'll be around alot of friends/family, you'll be at BSL and maybe have room for an inch trim

November would be good too, especially if you cant find any methods to avoid reversion, and maybe you'll still get to be around friends/family with thanksgiving, and you'll be past BSL, and had enough time for a good enough trim to your liking, be nice and blunt. :yep:...So i guess ill go with BSL

oh i feel you on this. when i straightened my hair in the fall and there were girls hating on me saying my hair was a weave... yeah it kinda irked me that i got so much hate, but at the end of the day i told myself my hair must look pretty darn good for THAT many people to assume it must be a weave... :yep:
