I have been reading about some members using curl activator on their hair. Can someone clue me in on the benefits and tell me how you use it, and what your hair type is?

Here's my 2 cents...I haven't pick up a bottle yet (but I intend to do so), but basically the activator helps condition, moisturize & detangle the hair. A lot of the activators include glycerin in the ingredients which is a main component in helping do all of those things listed above to your hair.

ETA...I have 4a/b hair

When i was relaxed i used Sta Sof Fro on my newgrowth while stretching my relaxers. It just works really well. All kinds of slip and made extending relaxers much easier. My hair type is 4b. HTH -- jainygirl

I use S-Curl No Drip Activator Moisturizer.

I use it on my airdried hair, then twist my hair in a bun.

I sometimes use it on my new growth to soften it.

softness and moisture...i am using s curl currently and sta sof fro for the hotter mths ( i dont know why it doesnt work right now)...neither products give me curl definition...im 3c/4a

So which type of activator is better, and for what purposes? I have seen the gel activators, the spray activators and the cream-type activators. Do any of you use several kinds? What type of result might each one render?

And not to be funny, but does your hair smell like you've got a jherri curl?

i never had a jheri so i dont know lol...it smells ok..the sta sof fro spray smells manly...i use the s curl no drip activator moisturizer...its a spray (thick spray)

I use it for moisture. Either on my ends with wearing a bun and doing the baggie method, or on my new growth to make it softer and keep it from breaking off at the demarcation line.

Coming from someone who USED to have a scary I mean Jheri Curl, I know the benefits of the curl juice. Using the activator spray your hair retains a lot of moisture. I think my hair was healthy when I had the curl no breakage or anything. My hair was always thick. HTH.

Has anyone tried Soft Sheen Carson's "Wave Noveau" (sp?) as opposed to using Sta so fro or S-Curl?? They have this line listed on their website & was hoping maybe someone's tried it before & I can get feedback before I try it myself.

s-curl made my hair feel like straw. anything thats water based makes my hair like that. I dunno why...

i use worlds of curls combout conditioner and oil sheen
(thats what they call it but we all know its activator) because:
it doesnt have the activator smell
gives me lots of moisture
softens my natural hair
helps to keep ends from tangling

the main ingredients are water glycerine urea methylparaben lanolin and a few others but it doesnt have protien like some of the other activators which can make hair hard and straw like

Check out the Walgreens site; you can find the ingredients lists to many products there.

Thanks!!!!!.. lots of the other websites don't have the ingredients to things

I will NEVER use the S-curl no drip activator again! I sprayed it on my hair and a my hand was slightly sprayed in the process. 10 seconds later my hand got really irritated and about a minute after that I had a really painful rash on my hands. Thank God it did not have this effect on my hair. At first I thought it was just me. But then I tried it again the next day, and my hand started to itch about 2 seconds after spraying it on my hair. Even if i just try to do my hair after spraying it on the hair my hand started to itch. I have never had an expeinece like this and the problem stopped as soon as I stopped using the product.

But I hear that it does good for others on this forum but I just wanted to give you a word of caution.

What works for one does not work for all I tried S Curl and it made my hair dry no moisture at all but I get great results from Sta So Fro moisturizies my hair very well.

it does this to me sometimes and i wash my hands immediately...my body has reactions crazy sometimes..but overall i can use it

I use it for moisture when I wear my buns so my ends will not be dry. I think I'm a 4a

I'm 4a and use Care Free Curl Gold Activator on my length and mostly my ends to moisturize before wrapping them up in a bun during the day or at night before bed. I've never noticed a greasy feel, and at the end of the day, my ends are still oh-so-soft and moisturized. My ends do not look straw-y and awful at all. Perhaps the glycerin - which some members use in their own concoctions, but this product has worked for me, so I ent touching it! Hope this helps.

I just started using it...and I haven't noticed any negative affects as of yet. I only use it for my baggie, but who knows I might start using it on the roots of my hair when I am pass 9 weeks post relaxer.....So far it made my soft and hardly any breakage.

OK, for you ladies using activator how's the smell?

I have a very strong sense of smell and lots of smells turn my stomach. I mean I can smell others smoking when I am in my car and they are like 4 cars away. I could never reallly stand the smell of activator (my aunts and grandma used to had the dreaded jheri curls back in the day); it really turned my stomach. Is the smell better now-a-days or should I try to find something else? Are there any suggestions for the something else?

Kaddy Donnie's curl activator, which I use, has no scent. S-curl has a very very mild scent. Just stay away from Sta-sof-fro...that stuff is strong.

I have a question: If you use curl activator, can you go back to your original natural (kinky) hair? I *** the answer is yes. I was thinking about using some of that myself later on after my hair growth out more. My brother uses it (S-curl) and it defines his natural curls more.
