Why do people think if you wear a wig you are bald headed?

I went to the bss to get some new wigs. And when paying, I had to give my ID. So even before, the sales rep asked me if i was wearing a wig (not in a rude way. IT was in context of whatever was going on...). But on my ID, I'm not. My hair is pretty long and curled. She asked me if it was a wig (on ID) and I said "no". Then she asked me why do I wear wigs then. As if you have to be bald headed to wear a wig...I just gave my response: to give hair a rest, convenience, etc. Sheesh! :look:

That's called marketing research. According to that documentary, they do have 80 percent of the black hair market... so they gotta stay on top of their game....

Sigh.... I will be so grateful when I stop giving them my money..and sure, I could do that today but I'm taking baby steps.

Also because they have NO IDEA how to actually take care of hair. They don't know that this protects your hair. They don't know that not having to comb your hair everyday helps to keep it healthy. I know exactly why they think that way, because that's exactly how I thought before I came here. I was just talking to DH and my friend about that the other day; how I have a completely different look on hair and hair care now. It's funny how your mind opens up when you learn new things!!!! Lucky for me (and my hair).:D

I used to be guilty of this but heck now some of everybody wears fake hair. :lachen:

Relaxrehab chile your baby steps are going to turn into adult steps before you know it.

I can't say that there is fault in that thinking. Most of the people I know who wear a wig do so because their hair IS short or they are losing hair from a medical condition. Most people choose to wear a wig because it gives them quick length, not to say they are bald underneath the wig...but a bad haircut or thinning hair, etc...can be hidden under a wig. It's unfortunate that the general thinking is that if a woman is wearing a wig, she must not have a lot of hair. However, I don't expect the general population to think otherwise. I do think that it is rude to ask anyone why they choose to wear a wig. If I have waistlength, thick, healthy hair and I choose to hide it under a wig, that's my business.

LOL. You know you're not bald - what's it matter why they think you're wearing a wig? I wear braids - my hair is about 2" shy of bra strap length. Folks assume I have no hair because I wear braids - little do they realize, sometimes a sister just doesn't feel like doing her hair.

Whatever. If they want to think I'm bald, think I'm bald. I KNOW what i've got goin on...and that's all that really matters.
