Will a Chi flatiron work on natural 4b hair?

Hi there!
I was thinking about purchasing a Chi iron soon and was wondering if it will work on my 4a/b type natural hair. The problem that I've had with other flatirons is that I can get the roots straight, but not the ends. It's like when I get ready to comb the hair, the comb gets stuck at the ends....and that causes breakage.

wonder if it's my technique or the iron because after I wash and condtion my hair, I section it and make large twists to kinda stretch the hair prior to ironing.

I had a Maxiglide a while back. It worked well, except I noticed tiny strands of hair that got caught in the little teeth in the iron. Plus there was a burning/smoky type of smell that accompanied it. That iron was the closest to a pressing comb that I've had. Oh, it was also a bit to bulky for my taste. I know that they make a smaller version, but I want to try the Chi first.

Any input will help. :)

Yes, but please try a small section of your hair first. That thing get hot and may cause permanent heat damage.

Others have had success...but I didnt...alot of 4b naturals rave about the Maxiglide...

The Chi didnt work on my 4b natural roots....I ordered it when I was like 60% in my transition with like 4inches or so...I paid my $120 dollars all optimistic and stuff used it, was like  un unh...no it didnt just make my hair look like this....

So I thought maybe it was me or my hair was in bad shape or something...so to test it...I ran up the street and got the $50 Jibere flatiron from Sally's and used it for the rest of my hair....smoothed my hair great...:ohwell:

Back to folica my flat iron went...so if you order...order from somewhere with a GOOD return policy....also FYI chi only honors the warranty if it was purchased at a salon not on the internet..

okay I think Ive said enough :)

Yes, it does get the roots straight probably because it gets HOT and it's small. I love mine:) . Please be careful , like Anky said to avoid burns:eek: .

I haven't made a post, or put up pics of my latest attempt at flat-ironing--but if you're gonna go for an expensive flat iron to straighten with go for a Sedu. I own a maxi-glide, and while that gets the job done the Sedu is an absolute Beast at how well it straightens. I rollerset first then straightened, but I tried it on stretched hair and it worked the same--I can't speak highly enough for it. Plus it has temperature control, which is always good! :)

I have the Chi, I split it 3 ways with my mom and my sister.

My mom has some kind of 3 type hair, and my sister, probably 4a and 4b.

I have 4b, (most likely)

It all straightens our hair wonderfully!

I don't do it often though, because it does weaken your hair, and you will lose your curl pattern.
