I swear ya'll I cant explain it either, but my hair feels wonderfull! It take everything in there out with it. and no itchies either....ok those took a minute to settle down....but they did.

I think if one doesnt want to do this a stand alone rinse/wash , it could certainaly serve as a pre poo oil rinse....I might use it that way too

down side , is , its wastefull, all that oil down the drain. But if its something that works and doesnt strip the hair and is only moisturizing, then its all good.

Hmmm..... Well, I guess if it worked for you then it works, though I don't see how. I'm no Bill Nuy the Science Guy, but IIRC cleaning something works b/c the soap or whatever, binds to the dirt, and then soap+dirt combo dissolves in water and rinses away. Oil+hair sebum--ok, that will bind, but oil+dirt? Does that bind? And even if it does, when it comes to rinsing, it's not going to dissolve. But again, it worked for you--passed the scratch test and all, so guess it works!

I dont know, that oil took everything out with it thats all i know then the remaining seemed to just soak right in just leaving my hair soft

ya'll gonna really think I'm crazy now, but let me find out this works consistently as much as I hate shampoo......I might replace it. haha

atlien11, that's interesting about the cones. I thought only sulfate shampoos could remove them.
I know hot oil treatments can remove colour from the hair so it can probably remove dirt too.

Although, oily hair is supposed to attract dirt though isn't it? So like Irresistible said, I don't think it should replace washing completely.

I'm thinking if there is extra build up......the next time I would double it. &do a double oil rinse, Macadamia nut oil aint cheap though.....next time olive oil or coconut oil.

This makes sense to me, only because of a recent incident. I ironed my hair last week and used heat protectants and serums to combat the humidity. My head was a hill of silicone. Because hair started to feel loaded and lifeless, I slathered on some MTG and ORS carrot oil cream. My hair bounced and swung unbelievably. Although this wasn't a wash, I can now understand why the oil revived my hair.

Now I'm going to try the oil wash. This will be a perfect opportunity since I didn't poo this weekend.

lol yeah, I ran my nails over my hair and scalp and all there was was pure clean oil. I had to show my daughter......so thats how the scratch test was born lmao

girl yes! It does take everything right out with it!

The oil wash makes perfect sense to me. I was using olive oil for a while to wash my face and I was amazed to find that the oil removed my mascara and eyeliner better than the soap I was using at the time. It was like the mascara just dissolved or something.

I use lots of conditioners in my hair, in fact other than oil that is all I use in my hair. I don't shampoo my hair ever, I only CW. With all that I have never had a problem with build up and I think that has a lot to do with the amount of oil that I use in my hair, both in my conditioners and applied directly. So I can see how this would work.

Girl see this is perfect for you then! I didnt rinse , cause my hair after water=a bigger job. I swear the remaining oil just soaked right up overnight. and didnt get all over or anything. Remember to do that last squeeze (ring out) when you have combed it through and gathered it together. I think that last squeeze helped alot to get the drippage. then I just had a towel around my neck after putting it in one braid for a little while and caught the rest like that. Then it stopped shortly after and it was just soft and wonderfull. It took all the build up right on out!

Iris, girl gosh dang it!!! LOL were you in my head or what! I can't Co-wash and don't like washing too often (time constraints) and was wondering what I could do to help my grass! Thanks so much! Now do you rinse or no? I'm imagining I'd leave oil all over the place. LMAO flashback to the juicy curl days.

Girl you know my hair is an oil lover, lover of oil it is. I dont know how this will feel on hair that doesnt like oil though. But I can say this......there was hardly no oil left to speak of the next day......its like it got all the gunk out and then just soaked right on up to moisturize and soften my hair.

Thanks for telling us about this. I love the oil cleansing method for my face (I never would have dreamed THAT would work so good and keep my skin clear!). So, I can definitely believe it could work on the hair. Now, on my hair, I don't know 'cause my hair dislikes oil rather intensely. But I will give it a try.

No, I don't think you're crazy. On another board some are oil only and some WATER only I've thought about using coconut oil to try this technique, just haven't gotten up the courage yet!

My best friend said in Kenya they did this all the time. She had beautiful long natural hair when she came here. She let a woman w/ no hair tell her she needed to relax (new growth and length) every 6 weeks. Needless to say her hair is only about an 1 inch long now. But that's another story.

I've never tried it personally, but it does seem a good way to keep my hard water off my hair a little more.

You may want to consider a lighter oil. EVOO was very heavy for me. I think for the same price or less, I can buy a light hair oil from the local drugstore. At least I hope so. As a matter of fact, I like the thought of hair oils having a mixture of jojoba, olive, castor and other beneficial oils, better than just the one oil.

The EVOO was very effective. It was scary looking at the dirty oil in the tub, but it was interesting to see after ample pushing and squeezing, the oil eventually ran clear again.

This weekend may be a poo/protein treatment weekend, so I hope that this oil wash acts as a pre moisturizer for the treatment.

LOLOLOL, I dont really use olive oil anymore these days, much nicer smelling oils there are , such as coconut oil, thats probably the only one I would use. any oil is good for me though, remember I slab on butters like no tommorow and it doesnt bother me.....me likey the oils and butters.

Yesterday, I didn't actually wash with oil but I applied Hot 6 Oil after shampooing my hair. My hair loved it! I haven't used oil in a while and now I'm going to incorporate it back!

Hot 6 makes me itch, tossed that down to my daughter and hopes she dont itch whenever she decides to use it. She uses other African Royale stuff , so it should be fine for her.

Well I will say a couple days later, my hair feels light and clean and soft. I still feel like I need to do somethin with it though.....that was just too easy lol

Next, coconut milk rinse &Conditioner wash

For ladies that dont want to make this the only step (I'm not sure I will) This definitely serves as a pre treat or a quick get you through a couple or few days, till you can do the whole job...it does take all buildup/dirt out and most definitely moisturizes. I was using cheapy leave in conditioners that were really reg conditioners (v05 and stuff), they were serving their purpose but my hair was feeling like Sh!t from it, and this fixed it!

So if I tried this with a light oil combo (coconut, OO, and castor oil) can I put in some tea tree oil or some rosemary eo, maybe even some lavendar or rose for a nice smell?

I'm thinking that I may try this on my hair tonight and my dd's hair this weekend. Her hair hates moisture treatments and glycerine, etc. But loves protein stuff and oils. I slather her scalp and hair with castor oil after washing and the next day after her hair soaks that oil in, it feels lush and velvety and has a wonderful sheen.

So I may try this as an off week rinse and then wash/DC on my regular wash weeks.

I may try it in mine b/c I am lazy and don't want to have to go through the whole hair washing saga tonight. Plus, dh can't complain about me coming to bed with my wet hair - again!!

I am a newbie but have been coming to the site for a long time. I would like to thank all of you for sharing your hair experiences and advice.

When I read about the oil wash I was immediately interested in what the results would be for me. Well, I was not disappointed with the results. I used Maha Bhringraj oil because it was the only oil I had. Followed the instructions, put a scarf on and went to bed. Since I didn't like the smell of the oil I shampooed the next morning and airdried with a rollerset. My hair came out exremely soft, shiny, silky, and easy to comb. My hair is natural and I was considering a relaxer but after the results of the oil wash I'm changing my mind.

I plan to do the oil wash on Wed. hide my hair until Sat. ( I french roll)
and wash and deep condition on Sat. I am open to other suggestions about how to integrate the oil wash into my hair routine.
