I am really tired of my hair.

Nope, not relaxing or texlaxing it, but I am seriously considering straightening my hair at least once a month.

I am not concerned about my hair being damaged- it has seen its share of damage from me not using heat period.

I just figure that the amount of time I spend two strand twisting, flat twisting, attempting to braid it up, etc could be spent on me straightening and wearing it down more.

I need to perfect my skill, though. Recently I tried to blow dry and the result was not that great.

I don't recall it being this difficult the first time I went natural.

Any blow drying suggestions? Please no round brush right now. I am 'flicted' :lachen:

Just a vent.

with your texture, you could rollerset, then just hit the roots with the flat iron and have straight hair.
i understand how you feel. that is usually when it's time for me to get some sort of weave or braids.

I'm here witcha. Major damage here exaserbated by wash n gos. I started flat ironing 2 weeks ago. Great decision at least so far. I do a warm iron at ~200oF after a blow dry. I use Mixed Chicks Straightening Serum which is also a heat protectant. Then oil or grease it and twist it up for twist outs. Looks the best it ever has. IDK if it will blow up in my face but anything to get some growth and retain. I just had to cut from SL back to NL & EL in some places.

So good luck to you! There's also a straightening thread for naturals around here, btw...

what type of blow dryer do you use? it seems a lot of naturals use the one with the comb attachment. may you should go to the salon and see how they do it and ask them to not use a round brush on you.

OMG...freekin DITTO!! Curly worked a lot better when I was EL....the longer it gets, the more impossible it is to manage. Unless I just want to walk around in a frizzy fro braidout all the time. And I Don't. :nono:

OP there's always BKT if you don't wanna do relaxers. I'm going that route myself...if I just don't decide to texturize it and be done.

I love my curls, but I have so much hair that its just too much manipulation to wet it and comb it every day. I straighten every week or at least every other week to give my hair a break. I love curly styles in the summer, but its just beginning to be too much for me to handle.

Bubblingbrownshuga do you know how to rollerset? My hair is similar to yours and I'm sure you'd get great results. You should try it. Or maybe try curlformers (the ebay cheap bootleg kind from China.. or at least that's what I'm gonna buy!)

Nothing wrong with straightened styles. I too have come to the realization that I like to wear my hair straightened/rollerset more regularly then wearing it curly. Especially while I am job hunting. Though I love my curls!

I second learning how to rollerset. Rollersetting smooths your cuticle down and is healthier then blow drying. However blowdrying once a month probably isn't bad. I use a Conair Silverbird dryer. That thing gets hooot.

Girl i gave up my dam self and got a weave which i cant stop swanging. I keep wondering why didnt i make this decision sooner

Here's the thing about straightening...it takes just as much time as braiding or twisting, but it can be a lot more frustrating because you take all that time and then your hair frizzes or puffs when you sweat or when it's humid.

My hair likes heat and I like length but I never feel like straightening anymore (plus I like looking different from everyone else ). I found a happy medium...I blow dry my hair then do twistouts. Those last me about two weeks. That way, my hair gets the heat and I get the length without having to worry about about reversion or frizzing.

If you get a good twistout routine going, you can wake up and fluff every morning and still look fly.:yep:

Instead of blow drying maybe you can try rollersetting then flat ironing. Before all of that do a deep deep conditioning. I tried sistawithrealhair's method and I liked the results. I went back curly this morning and had the same thought that maybe I would flat iron once a month as well at least keep it stretched with rollersets.

I have those same thoughts sometimes about straightening! (especially after being totally mesmerized by SistaWithRealHair). I totally understand where you're coming from, and I think the rollerset idea from above would be a good deal.

Stretch in plats or something and use the tension method. My hair is kinkier than yours and this works great for me without a comb attachment.

Use products that make it easier to straighten your hair. I use Redken Smooth Down Condition and another Blow Dry Straight Lotion by some off brand and sometimes Paul Mitchen Silky Straight right before I flat iron. I use a dime/nickel sized amount of these products, because they are highly concentrated. Too much product is bad if you want your hair to swing.

Always use a heat protectant.

I hope this helps!

Try roller setting and either blow out or flat iron the roots. Then pin curl or wrap at night to maintain. I've had great success with Argan oil products.

I rotate the following product lines:

Morrocan oil and Cream of Nature Argan oil. I use the sulfate free poo, mask and oil treatment. They are light and keep your hair moisturized. They also provide lots of shine and swing in my hair. I also have a bottle of pure 100% Argan oil. I use this on my ends if they feel dry. Sometimes I add a few drops of the pure argan oil to the mask.

HTH

Thinkin if this grease don't work will try that dang crisco next. Does it really resist reversion well?

I came to the same conclusion too. My hair has the Max Organiq on it. But to be honest, I can't tell the difference. Anyhoo, I get to many SSK's wearing my fine hair natural. DH likes my hair in a straight pony. So I decided to straighten from now on. I just clarified, WEN, DC, and blow dried with my Conair Silverbird yesterday. After I flatironed with my Coroliss K2 iron on 375 degrees, one pass. That is all I needed to get sleek, straight hair. I think I will blowdry/flatiron every two weeks.

I say do it :yep:

Yes, I could rollerset, but my issue is not necessarily my roots, but my ends after the style is set. I have been considering rollersetting though and just perfecting my technique as time goes on.

I just took back the Silver Bird, the cousin of the Yellow Bird blowdryer. Girl, why did the attachments pop off while I was styling it  I took that cheap sucker back. I am thinking I will need to purchase an expensive one from folica or somewhere.

The Brazilian Keratin Treatment? I haven't heard of too many people using this method. Have you seen successful results on others?

I blow dry and flat iron every two weeks :look:

If you don't mind, can you share your technique?

I used to get my hair blown dry and pressed every two weeks when I was in junior and high school and my hair was still thick. Healthy on the other hand, probably not. But then again, my hair has broken off by me implementing 'healthy hair' practices.

Can you share your twistout technique after blow drying? How long do the twists last before you twistout?

I have a 'hand fixation' with my spray bottle and twists/twistouts. I am kinda afraid it would be second nature for me to blow dry, twist my hair only to try to freshen it with the herbal tea mixture. I'd be so pissed if this happened

The dang attachments kept popping off with me. It went right back to Sally's.
